The Government Stimulus did not do for the economy what was advertised.

About $500 billion of stimulus was spent targeting the same people who receive about $500 billion every year with various safety net programs. The stimulus was poorly spent. It should have been spent buying government hardware that will be needed over the next decade while putting specific buy American clauses in every contract. Throwing money at the same people year in and year out may be necessary to keep them alive with dignity, but it is not much of a job creating atmosphere. Over 5 years what we spent is between $3 trillion and $3.5 trillion with little to show from it beyond what the economy would have generated by itself.
