I read this interesting article today about the role of predators in ecosystems. The hypothesis being studied was that predators not only control prey populations, but influence their behavior in positive ways because of the fear prey species have when the possibility of being eaten exists. They aren't as bold, destructive or as present when predators are around, because of that fear.

What are we humans willing to risk or give up to allow ecosystems to thrive naturally? Should we give those things up for the good of an ecosystem?

Predators are essential to a balanced eco system but they have a hard time coexisting with man and his tendency to insert highly vulnerable livestock into their world.Unfortunately I don't see us stopping that anytime soon.
