The Koch bros play and pay on both sides. To think they are right or left wingers is listening to people they have bought like the scum of the earth, filthy Harry. They give to both parties and I believe the majority went to the left, I may be wrong but we will never truly know. They are big prison owners and seems may be in with the Clintons on them and are happy to pay to play. I see it's trendy to hate but some seem too consumed with hate to see anything real anyway.

I would have to see this 'new constitution' to judge whether it would be good or bad. But without seeing it, I would have to assume its bad, simply because the one we have is about as good as one can be.

How will we pay down the national debt since we run deficits because people whine about paying taxes in the first place? All you would do is end up wrecking the national economy.

The brothers Koch are a perfect example of how the super rich try to control America.
You need to do some research on their layered donations to the minions.
It is not just a republican or democrat thing, it is a total control thing.
The brothers Koch only care about the brothers Koch.
The sooner you forget your tribal political party issues, the better you will be able to see.
Sadly, there are also others like them in America.

If you think they're the same even with the 5 top families in place, I think you stopped short on your research.

Well what I understand is that once you get to the point of changing the constitution there is nothing to stop them from scrapping the entire thing and putting in new papers, anything they want.

It's meaningless twaddle. All that is under discussion is the states calling convention to draft constitutional amendments. The constitution allows either Congress to draft these or for the States to collectively draft amendments. And once drafted, they have to be approve by 3/4th of the States, regardless of whether the States draft them or Congress does, it makes no difference.

A balanced budget amendment is one that has for decades teetered on the edge of the 34 requisite states needed to draft the amendment.

Republicans almost have enough states to amend the constitution without a constitutional convention.

The constitution should be amended to eliminate anchor baby citizenship. NO other country does so.

Citizenship should be defined as ONLY any person born to an American citizen or anyone who is granted citizenship thru proper steps. Anchor babies would not be citizens and would be deported with the parent.

Federal law should make it a criminal offense (misdemeanor) for anyone to aid someone to enter the country illegal or to remain in the country illegally, and a felony if it is any government official who does so.

Well, with 34 states they can convene to write amendments. The amendments have to be approved by 38 states just as amendments passed by the Congress would have to. It makes no difference which body writes the amendments.
That's not necessary. Native Americans born in the US were not automatically granted citizenship until an act of Congress granted that, long long after the post civil war amendments. Like 1930 or something. Congress can end anchor-baby citizenship, simply with an act of Congress.
The Constitution grants Congress the power over naturalization, if majorities of Congress want to do this, they have the power to do so, on a majority vote, if they wish.

I don't trust the Koch Brothers.

No, it's not the only way.

US federal debt is currently 1/4th of World GDP, and the ratio of US federal debt to World GDP will only increase over the next several decades, to the point that no one will be able to buy US federal debt.

Has anyone thought about the consequences of illegal immigration on their children's futures?

Everyone wants their children to do well. Many people want to send them to college.

Unfortunately, a BA is worth little more than a high school degree these days. To get anywhere, a student needs a masters degree. Unless a student gets excellent grades, a masters program is out of the question. They will have to pursue a career with just a BA and a lot of them will not succeed. That means they will fall into the general labor pool.

Does anyone really want their child to compete with people from other countries who will work for less? We are not talking about menial jobs like gardeners, or maids. Illegal immigrants are in job sectors like construction, sales and trucking--jobs that Americans used to raise families on. Salaries in those fields have dropped already.

What will young Americans say when it hits them that they will have to settle for less thanks to the decisions of politicians?

Make it a felony and loss of business to hire an illegal in this country.

I don't know why the idea of a "runaway convention" is so terrifying to people.

It's not normal for a country to have the same governing structure in place for over 200 years. Conventions are possible for a reason.

Unfortunately, a balanced budget amendment would eventually wreck the economy, or cause great hardship on segments of lower income people without warning.

I firmly believe that our budget needs to be flexable to deal with downturns. For example, what happens if we hit another depression? The law would require that the budget be balanced with FAR FAR FAR FAR less income thatn its used to having.

The first things that would be cut of course would be needed social services.

Balanced budget wouldn't mean we are paying down the national debt (well, except slowly in installments). It would mean our revenue would equal our outlays.

Not to mention ruining our credit rating, increasing our interest rates, and possibly going into total bankruptcy.

Holy crap, what an amazing insight. WGP is growing at about 3.5% a year. Over Obama's two terms US Federal debt averaged almost 9% growth a year. That won't work over the long haul.

Because NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING is more important to a Democrat, than moving every single penny of the economy in to government control. This is what they live for. Forget about the diversity, the income inequality, and the women's rights. The only thing they want, is to take all the money away, and then control it. Balancing the budget stops their ability to spend money they don't have. Their goal is to run up the tab, then create a situation where we have to tax the **** out of everyone to pay the tab.

It is a Convention of States not a constitutional convention whatever that is. The main amendments being considered are balanced budget and term limits including limits or recall of judges. The checks on the COS are the numbers of states necessary to call one (34) and to ratify any amendments (38_). Getting rid of 'anchor babies' is not a bad idea especially since no other major industrialized country does so. I don't think that is high on the priority list.

It's not a lengthy amendment, the 5th, to read.

Draconian (my name!) ideals may be what it needs to come to...

However it needs to be on both ends, I would be ok with a zero tolerance type of jailing people that knowing hire illegal aliens. However it needs to be on the same end with the illegal aliens themselves. One needs to go with the other in order to be fair and wide covering, immediate jail for business owners breaking the law and immediate deportations for people breaking the law.

    That be fair to you?

That's happened in construction. So many illegals have taken construction jobs that there is a shortage of agricultural workers.

It doesn't stop the government from spending. It will just mean more taxes. When a proposal includes automatic tax increases to cover shortfalls, I will believe the GOP is serious about balancing the budget
