It really is unbelievable how foolish the Ukrainian Generals and Ukrainian President are leaving Ukrainian soldiers and fighters in the peninsula shaped area of the Northeastern part of Ukraine around Oskil river and Kupyansk Vuslovyi, this strip of land is completely indefensible, God himself couldn't stop the Russians from taking that ground. All those Ukrainian forces should be withdrawn to parallel with Izyum or they are going to be trapped! Why don't Ukrainian Generals order those soldiers to carry out a bayonet charge against Russian forces to get their death over quickly or why doesn't the Ukrainian Parliament and President rename the area Debaltseve so the soldiers in that area can clearly know their fate which is of their Ukrainian brothers that were encircled by the Russians and their proxies in 2015 and were slaughtered in shocking numbers!

Volodymyr Zelensky as President of Ukraine is ultimately responsible for those soldiers in that narrow band of land he is the commander in Chief of the Ukrainian Army, he cannot negate his responsibility by claiming Ukrainian Generals have made the decision that is that, he has the final say over all things involving Ukrainian military. These Ukrainian fighters if they stay there are one hundred percent dead or captured, their lives will be wasted for no reason because they won't have the opportunity to kill many Russian soldiers Russia will do what it has done in the past with encircled Ukrainian troops it lets the Russian artillery cut them to pieces. One doesn't have to be a General to know of the extreme stupidity of having those Ukrainian soldiers remain there; Russian artillery units from the east and west of that channel of land can unleash barrages that will create a path across that strip where even mice won't survive to cause trouble for Russian combat forces sealing off that strip. It is multiply stupid for Ukrainian military command to leave Ukrainian forces there that will get trapped and killed or captured because that will give the Russian military a victory a success on the battlefield which may boost morale amongst Russian troops which could snowball or grow which could lead to other Russian battlefield victories. Currently military experts conclude that Russian commanders up to this point are deficient in implementing battlefield tactics, rank and file Russian soldiers know this because they see it with their own two eyes so there is a lack of confidence in these troops in what their commanders are ordering will succeed they expect the plans to fail in life expectations often become reality if these soldiers begin to see success by Russian commanders Russian soldiers may begin to expect to win battles which could become self-fulfilling prophesies to the detriment of the Ukrainian people.

Ukrainian commanders shouldn't get hung up on intentionally giving Ukrainian territory to the enemy like that is unpatriotic or something bad, the top priority is to win the war those Ukrainian troops now deployed in that strip of land could provide more lethal value against Russian forces as part of a later battle against Russian forces leaving them there will largely lead to them being wasted, I suspect they won't last two weeks Russian Generals would have to be brain dead not to be able to eliminate such vulnerable enemy forces. Good military strategy sometimes involves retreating from territory not contesting every section of ground for later battlefield successes the allies did it in World War II the allies had over 300,000 troops in France during the beginning of the war but chose not to fight at that time because they would be stronger at a later point so they retreated and withdrew that large force at Dunkirk France to England!

I agree that the Ukrainians need to make sure that they have reserves and a back up plan.

The Ukrainians seem to be cognizant of the dangers of what they are doing. They planned this counter offensive pretty well, I hope,

What I find amusing (to say the least) is that anonymous users on an internet forum seriously think they know more and better than the Ukrainian military high command. And this 'expert knowledge' comes from looking at a few maps and reading a few articles on the internet. Wow.
