The recent agreement between Israel, UAE and Bahrain is nice, but until Trump gets an agreement with Israel and Palestine, all it is is nice. It's not like these three were at war with each other, and they weren't, noting that all three countries are allies of the US and have a great incentive for Trump's reelection. No doubt, Trump is going to hail this as the accomplishment of the century, to boldly go where no president has ever gone before ( uh, except for Carter, though Mrs Sadat wasn't too happy with the outcome), ad nauseum, I'm sure we'll never hear the end of it. Call me when Trump gets a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine. I will gladly give him a standing ovation if and when that should ever happen.

For a leader who spends a lot of time sowing panic at home, President Trump seems rather keen to mend fences abroad. The past week has seen a flurry of White House peacemaking initiatives, timed conspicuously as Trump plunges into a reelection campaign in need of evidence of his success as a statesman.

The two big deals trumpeted by the White House this month are not the victories for “peace” that Trump claims they are. Start with the main event this week: Both the UAE and Bahrain already communicate and engage with Israel, and the three countries were not locked in anything close to conflict. “The UAE-Israel strategic relationship was fueled by mutual fears of Iran and formalized by the United States,” Karim Sadjadpour, a Middle East analyst at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told my colleagues. “It’s an example of Trump slapping his name on a hotel that was essentially already built.”

I listened to it. Looks like Trump is trying to do all the things he should have been doing all along. All three of them. I agree the peace deal is nice, but it's just political theater to Trump.

Netanyahu said something strange. Something like "president Trump confronted the Jihadists in Tehran."

He did? When? All I know is Trump pulled out of the deal, which is avoiding confrontation, and killed a general. I dunno. Pretty low bar to claim confrontation IMO.

Ahh, to set the record straight, it would be misleading to call this a 'peace deal' because none of the signatories are at war with each other.

No, what this is low hanging fruit which Trump can hype for campaign purposes. I mean, it's nice that these countries are formally recognizing each other, but, as for 'peace' it's really a step back, because the deal will exacerbate any hope America has for achieving an Israel / Palestine solution ( which the moving of the Embassy did, as well ).

So, no, this is no peace deal, this is an anti-peace deal. Moreover, Trump pulled out of Syria, abandoning our Kurdish friends who fought with us, who now have no choice but to ally with Russia, expanding Russia's influence in the region, and pulled out of the Iran deal, which is now allowing Iran to go full steam ahead towards the development of a nuke.

The thing that gets me is that part of the "sugar" for the UAE is the sale of US F-35 fighters for them. Now I know Trump isn't the only president to include US arms sales to sweeten the pot, but have we not learned our lesson in dealing with ME countries? Why is it the biggest bargaining chip we always have is selling them arms?

And BTW, notice once again Trump's hypocrisy.

Trump may very well achieve peace in the middle east - something that has eluded all other US Presidents and something that has been desired for more than half a century - and right on que liberals start pissing on it. I guess America fostering peace is not what liberals want. I think they liked it better when Obama gave billions to the terrorist state of Iran. Liberals are just anti-American.

Obama did not give one penny of American dollars to Iran. He unfroze Iranian bank accounts, money which was theirs to begin with, in order to secure a deal which would prevent iran from getting closer to developing a nuke by a factor of 15 years, which would give America plenty of time to regroup. The 'cash' was only that portion delivered in cash because the pertinent banks were under sanction, and digital bank transfers were impossible. This was their money. This was a small sacrifice to strengthen America's position with Iran. But now, Trump has pulled out, and now Iran is free to move towards developing a deal, AND they have the cash. Brilliant.

Trump has done nothing to indicate he is even remotely able to achieve peace in the middle east. The recent 'deal' was not a 'peace treaty' given that the signatories are not at war with each other. All it is is low hanging fruit Trump will hype for campaign purposes. Anyone who can't see this doesn't understand the complex dynamics of the middle east.

In fact, the so called peace deal with UAE and Bahrain, while it's nice that they formally recognize each other, does nothing to move the needle in favor of peace of where the tensions actually are, which is between Israel and Palestine. Palestinians do not see this as furthering peace, they see it as emboldening Israel against Palestine. Couple that move with the relocation of the Embassy, the pull out in Syria which forced the Kurds ot ally with Russia, expanding Russia's influence, pulling out of the Iran deal giving Iran the go signal to move closer to getting nukes, and overall, America is much less safe than when Trump took office, and one could easily argue that Trump's foreign policy has been nothing less than a disaster for America -- noting that Woodward's taped sessions of Trump reveal that we came mighty close to a war with NK. https://www.newsweek.com/trump-woodward-dont-know-how-close-war-north-korea-1531634

    A friend puts it best:

"Life might have been discovered on Venus, and Trump might have just gotten the Saudis to recognize Israel following the success of the already-miraculous Abraham Accords.

    It's only Tuesday."

    Great quote.

I know, both the Democrats and Republicans rely on the military-industrial complex and historically Democrats especially love to start wars. That said, this thread is petty.

Talk about moving the goal posts. Doesn't occur to you that as the other Muslim ME nations make peace with Israel it puts pressure on the Arabs in Judea to stop with the terrorism in their Arab occupied territory?

One thing we do know is that Kenyan President Obama didn't do it, did he?

I don't recall Fox running 93% negative news about Obama. On the other hand CNN and NBC has run 93% negative articles about Trump in his first 100 days. I can only imagine its gotten worse with an election coming up.

The first statement in the OP made reading the rest of it worthwhile. Someone had to admit Trump accomplished something....man, I bet that was so difficult for you! lol!

there is a reason Iran is backing Biden for President. This thread highlights it. The bitter left will do anything to gain power and that includes undermining peace and sleeping with the world’s largest state sponsor of terror

I don’t know if it’s real or not.

What I do know is that we will inherit the outcome, regardless of whether Trump wins or not.

It seems to me as though Trump and Kushner are abandoning the long standing practice of the US trying to act as the “honest broker” in the Middle East. Of course, this long standing US policy was shattered when the US decided to start an unnecessary war in Iraq. But the Obama Administration tried to put it back together again. It succeeded mightily with the Iran nuclear deal.

Now, Tehran can see the United States gathering all of its Sunni enemies together.

Whether this agreement has any real effect, or is another one of Trump’s shows, like the North Korea escapades, remains to be seen.

But Tehran has little incentive NOT to build a bomb at a this point. Trump has made it clear that it is surrounded with enemies.

The sad thing is that the primary drivers for this are Trump’s corruption and the increasing awareness in Riyad and Abu Dhabi that the days of unlimited western dependence on fossil fuel are entering thier twilight stage.

These countries will have to adjust to that if they are going to keep their places in the developing world.

That was as much of a driver here as Trump’s ego.

Trump has accomplished what Clinton, both Bush'es, and Obama only talked about. He moved the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The above presidents said they would do that but never did. Trump is a man of action. Now he has a peace agreement between the Jewish state, United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. The lefties can't stand to give Trump credit when he does something good for mankind. Watch as one day the other Arab countries join in the peace actions. Trump is on a roll. And no sooner was the ink dry that rockets were fired from Gaza Strip into Israel. There will never be peace between Israel and Palestine as long as Palestine mothers keep teaching their children to kill Jews. Let Palestine stand alone as it's neighbors and Israel enjoy their peace. One day, hopefully, the Palestine people will wake up when they realize they are odd man out.

Do not under any circumstances EVER think that I meant a death-camp end to a pesky longtime problem like them. Clinton offered them their own state and they refused because ONLY the present Israel would do. They are Jordan's problem. Get them out of missile range from Israel---because no civilized people continuously do that to neighbors and expect to ever see peace.
