The "Occupy" protests are failing, its time to regroup... On the third Saturday in September, the Occupy Wall Street movement began in Zuccotti Park in New York City. The basic goal was to, via mass protests, bring attention and hopefully fundamental change to how the financial industry, with its political mistresses of all ideological stripes does business. The protests grew over the coming weeks, with some impressive numbers in various marches/encampments all around the Country. There's also been some participation in several cities around the world. The abuses of Wall Street and the buffoonish behavior of politicians and Presidents in dealing with said abuses leaves many of us feeling exploited, wronged and to some degree, generally screwed over. The growing income disparity is real, not imagined and should be a topic for serious discussion and policy work. The core issues are worthy of serious thought. The organisation or lack of it with these protests are leading to its failure. The sideshows of civil disobedience, outright law breaking and anti-social behavior are hurting the Occupy cause much more than helping it. All Occupy encampments should close up shop immediately, clean up your areas to match or exceed how they looked before you took those spaces over. While I certainly don't believe everything I see or read about the off the chain behavior of a few whack-jobs, someone in this movement needs to realize your message has been tainted terribly by the images and reports regarding many of these Occupy sites. I say scrap the occupation mentality totally and come back next time with something a little smarter, a little more reasonable and a lot more accessible for most Americans to understand, support and condone. They will come back. In the Spring. A little cold to occupy now. When the weather warms, their ire will return. A wise man would use this little window of time in the interim to better their lot in a big way. I'm thinking CDC expansion, universal healthcare and POTUS who controls it without checks...at the very least. 99% of our country is too big to fail...
Pretty sure as the GOP continues to stonewall jobs and economic reform [taxing the rich to get out of the hole], they're going to be painting a red bullseye on themselves in the bull pit. Rove is gambling that playing chicken with jobs and the economy is going to work to blame the democrats. People aren't that stupid. Maybe some in backwater states still stubbornly fixated on getting the black man out of office...but Rove may lose the bet. And you can tell because when you see him and his boys like Boehner and the talking idiots on Fox, they don't look as sure of themselves as they used to. What Rove is essentially asking everyone to do is to bet the house on his hunches. If the American economy truly fails because of these antics, those rich men and women who trusted Rove may find themselves out of a job and with an empty portfolio if the stock markets crash. More than playing chicken, the GOP is actually playing russian roulette. They're kidding themselves if they think they're insulated enough. They're not.
This video destroys the OWS movement in 5 1/2 short minutes. http://www.youtube.com/embed/OAOrT0O...search=0&showi This may be the best explanation and solution to date.
Why do people expect a mob of failures, deadbeats, and criminals to be transformed into something else by all being in one place? It doesn't work in prisons, why should it work in public parks. I think they peaked with drum circles.
Whether they return or not - imo, if they don't focus their attention and refine their message to one or two individual points (from the current multiple)...they are probably going to get nowhere. They need a respected and charismatic leader to be their voice. Or they will just blow off steam and then fade into oblivion. And I think they are also protesting in the wrong spots. Wall St. USA ain't going to care what they have to say. Even if the movement got big enough - the CEO's will just blame the politicians and claim their hands are tied and then get their PR people to put out warm and fuzzy ads to show how much they care...blah, blah, blah. The politicians are the ones to go after. These protesters will (imo) probably get nowhere until they do.
Their message was heard by the end of the 1st week.... by the 4th week, their petulance and violent, vandalous antics had completely destroyed any legitimacy garnered from the 1st week. Such is the nature of children and bums....who can't quite grasp the concept "overstaying one's welcome breeds contempt"
Sorry to break it to you, but you were duped from the beginning. This was organized long before people such as yourself hit the streets. This is why there is such layered agendas amongst OWS protesters. Mr. Lerner of SEIU set this up over a year ago, citing student tuition default, mortgage default etc...actually citing his intent was to create another financial crisis. It is on record in writing, audio and video on the above statements. Mr. Lerner is at the level of union leadership, that he has been to the White House, the Obama administration, at least 4 times. On the same page, different person, Mr. Van Jones, former Czar of President Obama before being removed, is also integral to planning of the OWS movement. He is a communist, and seeks the violent direction...the lawlessness of the OWS we all witness. Unions spearheaded this movement. Many union leaders have spoken about their declining numbers, and how they must recruit others from all sectors of society to bolster their numbers, albeit politically, since they will recieve no union dues from them. However, they need populace numbers to maintain their political clout. This brings in all factions, as they are gambling for sheer volume to gain percentage point increases, from Anarchists to Anonymous hackers, to anti-semitism it is all about riots, revolution and for some...the numbers. You are correct. They should move on, as the comparisons by even Mr. Obama to TEA Partiers is so shallow...so blatantly false, it succeeds in exposing the malignant malcontents of the movement via the pitch. The media is actually being gentle with the OWS. If it had been anything but a left wing endeavor...well, I think you know the rabid spin that would have ensued. One last thing. In my opinion, OWS because it is leftist, by its organizers and followers, never went as a movement to one of the obvious sources of the problem. 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. This riddled the movement with hypocracy from the get go.
It's leaderless, it has no centralized command, control and communications. Basically it's a bunch of legitimate protestors interspersed with a criminal element with no intent on protesting, they are there to take advantage of the vulnerable. Police your own, clean up your act...legitimize the movement...and present a manifesto that all can agree with. Otherwise, no one takes any of this seriously..it's unwashed hippies on a marijuana urban camp out...with the occasional rapist, thief and anarchist thrown in for good measure. About as serious as a girl scout jamboree, only with pot brownies instead of cookies. Veiled threats muttered in between bong hits. *zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*
Entitled, do nothing, welfare loving losers. They are the best thing to happen to hard working people since the 60s. NOw people have a clear choice of the two kinds that make up America. Doers and losers.
