I sent this to my representatives, friends and newspaper. I think this is the best answer to satisfy everyone.

Lets look at reality in the face for once. We aren't about to deport 11 millions illegals and we all know it. Neither side is even considering doing that. So what is the next best thing we can do without making them citizens? Allow them to stay and work here without citizenship. But they must register so we know who they are. Once registered, anyone else caught, are automatically deported. If caught more than once, they are jailed.

They would be worked under the Federal work laws in place now. Which would take away any incentive of hiring them instead of an American worker. E-Verify would be a national law for all companies.

They would not become citizens, could not collect any type of welfare. They would have to pay taxes. That would be their penalty of working here all these years and paying none.

Illegal problem fixed. It should satisfy them and the Hispanic community, as they would be able to work and move around the country without fear of deportation. Hispanic Americans should be happy, they no longer have to worry their friends and relatives will be deported. We now know who and how many illegals are in this country and can deport any that are not on a national register. Both sides can take credit for it. Neither side can benefit from it.

If you agree, E-mail your representatives and send them this. Just click on your state and get his E-mail address. Copy and paste this letter.

Start jailing the lawbreaking employers and the problem goes away overnight.

That would have to be part of the solution- require the use of E-verify, and toughen up the penalties for any employer who hires people to work off book so that they can pay less than minimum wage.

We also should toughen up our southern border with more border agents.

Funny you say that when it was your Liberal friends that sued Arizona to stop punishing employers for hiring illegals. I have posted that several times. Arizona also has a E-Verify law.

The U.S. Supreme Court today ruled federal law doesn't preempt an Arizona measure that punishes employers who hire illegal immigrants. The split decision was a blow to immigrant advocates, business and civil liberties groups, and the Obama administration.

Under the Arizona law, companies caught hiring illegal workers can be stripped of their business licenses. And employers are required to use the otherwise-optional federal verification program known as E-Verify.

Guess who on the USSC voted against Arizona? It was Democrats. Lucky there wasn't enough of them. Arizona did just what Democrats say should be done and then got sued for doing it. That doesn't even include SB 1070 which was another one Obama sued us for.

Well let's just give up and not even try... That's the old American fighting spirit!

You don't have to deport 11 million. Just do what Eisenhower did back in the 50's and ship them all the way down to the tip of South America. Once the others find out what's going on, many will start packing up and head back home. But it is absolutely feasible for a mass deportation policy to work. Just put the illegals on Naval vessels that will patrol to that area and dump them off. There is virtually zero fuel cost and transportation cost would be minimal.

You think so? If we did away with our borders, this place would be flooded with 100 million more coming here. Then what do you do? No jobs where they came from, no jobs here. But it's nicer here so they mostly stay. Who is going to feed and house them? Will they steal and kill to get what they want and need? Europe is closing their borders after years of having them open. Ever wonder why? Sure, your way sounds so humane, but it isn't. You wouldn't want to live in the world you create by doing it.

100 million more coming here? That's called a baseless supposition (BS). One thing for sure is that many more Mexicans, Canadians, and Central North Americans would be travelling a whole lot more freely throughout the continent. France and Germany, which fought a lot of bloody wars, tore down their border stations and there are now just signs saying "Welcome to France." "Welcome to Germany," while the authoritarian US is going in just the opposite direction making things harder on everyone.

If they pay taxes they will have available to them all the benefits of any other tax paying citizen or resident.

Unlimited visas are probably the best option. That way, everybody pays taxes.

To avoid the scam mentioned above, we could just end all deductions for workers here on a visa.

Deductions really should be limited to citizens anyway.

    - - - Updated - - -

depends... Paying taxes doesn't give you the right to vote, for example.

Even citizens of D.C. know this on a personal level.

I was including rights as a benefit. Are you only referring to financial benefits?

Rights are not a benefit, benefits can be taken away.

Rights can be too (see the War on Terror).

Still, I get what you mean. That seems like something that could be fixed in policy though. If I'm not mistaken, welfare doesn't work the same for non-citizens anyway.

Look at the Patriot Act. FISA was bad enough in its own right, but the Patriot Act makes warrantless wiretaps legal.

Habeas corpus is more "flexible" as well.

And then you have things like renditions and Gitmo.

The whole mess has distorted due process.

May 13, 2011 – Denmark has shocked the European Commission by closing its borders without waiting for recommendations from the EU interior ministers ...

When you have like nations bordering each other, it's not a problem. People aren't going to flock in and stay. When others are filled with poverty, they aren't going back.

I disagree, Germany and France tried this, and it was a disaster for them. They allowed legal status to immigrant workers but made it impossible for them or their children to become citizens. This has led to great social problems in both countries. By denying them a path towards citizenship, they created an underclass that could not advance themselves, kept this underclass from having any real stake in the society and culture they were living in for nearly 50 years. Both nations in the late '90's changed their policies, but they are still dealing with the lingering fallrout such as the riots in France a few years ago. Basically they're here, and your proposal will eventually cause us to go through very similar problems. Why can't we learn from our own mistakes of the past when we tried to make racial minorities permanent second class citizens. We still haven't fully dealt with that legacy.

We've deported over a million people since Obama became President. That's almost 400,000 a year. That's just normal enforcement, not any sort of special enforcement program. So after you close off the borders, then we'll gradually whittle down the illegal population. So yes, we can deport 11 million people. It will just take several years.

You will never see them secure the border. Oh they may for several months or even a year. But they will once again leave it porous like it has always been. They will always need money for something else and get rid of border guards and the National Guard. As long as these people know if they can sneak in here and keep a low profile, they can jump on the next citizenship train.
