I have seen no proof of that claim. I have seen the Republicans push for equal rights more than I've seen if from the Dems. When I say equal, I don't mean giving anyone preference over others. I've seen a lot of Democrats outed for treating women as subordinate.
HR155 was introduced to protect those with disabilities (Rep. Sensenbrenner, F. James, [R-WI] We'll see if the Dems will allow it to go through. My guess is no.
They also introduced a bill to protect people against anti-antisemitism although I don't think it's necessary. To me, you don't need laws to protect certain people. Simple laws to protect all people kind of covers it. I guess it doesn't hurt to spell it out for the dummies though.
Don't kill a Jew
Don't kill a black woman
Don't kill a white child
Don't kill a hermaphrodite
Don't kill a disabled person
Etc.
Seems to me, don't kill anyone would cover it.

The GOP does seem to focus a lot on abortion but then so does the Dems. There is middle ground but I don't think that either side will find it.

If you treat everyone the same, most of these issues will be covered, and most already are. If you are talking about championing such fine works as HR 94, then yea, you are doing some important work that just couldn't happen without the Democrats.

 

The ratio of support was equal on both sides. 20% of house Republicans voted against the Civil Rights act of 1964 and 22% of GOP Senators were against it. 37% of house Democrats voted against it and 31% of Dem Senators were opposed.

As far as Johnson was involved, he voted against every single civil rights bill when he was a Congressman. I think that he changed his mind at some point but I suppose he took the reason to the grave.

That's easy. I just ignore the press. I don't think of them as the enemy of the people, just the enemy of the truth. But that's what the people seem to want.
