This is the reality in much of eastern europe even today.

And the standard in soviet russia.

I mentioned in the past that europe is going through a multi generational PTSD, because of socialism.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

But I feel the left today misses the old days.

Watch it a few times, its only a minute.

    Turn up the volume.

No more than it is the reality in much of the west too. We have plenty of people stuck in a cycle of poverty grinding through the days just to make ends meet.

Both parts of the world have shifted politically towards a more middle ground balance between abstract concepts like capitalism and socialism which generally works better (or at least not as badly) as any of the extremes we saw in the past. The root causes of many of our social problems remain the same, such as the continued disconnect between the haves and have-nots, who tend to remain consistent regardless of the underlying political system.

    Yes its true.

But its not these former socialist states pushing for more socialism.

And there is no better system for creating wealth and innovation than the capitalist free market system.

What did you think of the cartoon?

Did you catch that it was bart beating the kid for his skateboard and phone, and later shooting up drugs while his parents beat each other?

Nowhere is politically stable. The various extremists don’t like the middle ground balance and many people in positions of power can profit from change and disruption so there are always pushes in all sorts of directions. For example, there are growing nationalist and isolationist movements in a number of western countries at the moment too. It’s essentially the same thing at the very core (with many of the same problems), only the labels are different.

Alone though, there is also no system better for hoarding that wealth in the hands of a tiny minority. As I said, a balanced system is the best approach, which is why that is what we pretty much all have. Literally no nation in the world is 100% capitalist or 100% socialist because neither of those systems actually work on their own.

It was an amusing parody on an art style and a reflection of a stereotypical image of certain parts of the world. I very much doubt it was created with the intention for the depth of socio-political analysis you’re applying to it, no more than the normal Simpsons title sequence is meant to be anyway.

This is how I know you didn't watch the second video, and perhaps don't know anyone who grew up in a socialist state.

I did watch it (albeit it flicking through a little) and it doesn’t change anything I said. I stand by my opinion that it wasn’t created with in-depth analysis in mind and stereotypes can still have a basis in reality. I also specifically said that the extremes of communism/state socialism is bad. My point was that the extremes at the opposite end of the spectrum are no better and that the kind of bleak poverty depicted there isn’t exclusive to communist societies.

Also, the idea that anyone, regardless of their (perceived) political lean, actually wishes this kind of life on anyone is ridiculous.

It is very interesting, parts of Russia are changing though towards capitalism. What bothers me and I noticed this in China as well is that the post communist countries tend to embrace the worst of capitalism... the excesses of capitalism.. reflected in for example shows like "crazy rich Asians" etc. I believe that the backbone and success of our capitalist societies are the hard working middle class and this goes mostly unnoticed by those who only see wealth in capitalist countries.

Their top 10% throw around money like they do in Hollywood.. but if you can replicate the middle class you will have a recipe for long lasting success. Something that clearly have been made so much harder by the "informer" mindset during socialism...:(

There are 160 towns in the US with populations over 1,000 that have median incomes below $20,000. It's all relative. Roses do not grow from either Capitalists or Socialists when it comes to poverty. The ten best cities to live in all have more socialists policies than the US. Venezuela sucks. It's all over the board. Best standards of living are in countries with a blend of socialism and capitalism.

that was hilarious, and sadly pretty true to form. Socialism anyone? Perhaps they should do another one and have Bernie be a guest star.

Sprinkling a little socialist fail on an otherwise robust capitalist economy seems like a losing proposition.

One can't help but wonder if the lefts desire is to turn the US into that cartoon opening.

Two of the countries with capitalist economies are in the top ten for debt ... Japan at #1 and the US at #8 both with debt ratios over 100% of GDP.
It's easy to pretend an economy is booming when the boom is paid for in borrowed dollars.

Meanwhile Sweden, Norway, Mexico, Germany ... all under 55% debt to GDP.

So to be fiscally solvent, we should adopt socialism?

Just pointing out that BOTH systems have problems. Having Trump dry-hump the flag doesn't change that.

I think we can agree socialism has a far bigger problem.

People don't float to Venezuela on inner tubes from Long Beach, do they?

If you want to deliver the poor from poverty and into the middle class, isn't capitalism the best system for creating wealth?

Lots of people in southern california were born into communism, and a surprising number are doing well by old age. Less than one generation.

Would they have got that in the USSR, Vietnam, China India, or North Korea?

You sound as if everything you know about the world comes from watching Hannity and reading Brietbart. Try traveling to these places before you make blanket statements.

Right, Stories you read in Breitbart. We know. You quote them 100 times a week.
But you admit - you have never traveled to these places an seen them yourself. Try it. Reality is much different than Breitbart world ...

No from them. Primary sources are always best.

Socialism is a dated ideology of failure.

Pure socialism, capitalism and communism only exist as black-board exercises. All the successful countries have a mixture of ideologies.

Socialism is just a pretext for communism.

    Capitalism is where its at.

Pure capitalism doesn't exist in the real world.
