Donald Trump's long-delayed and forced-sounding disavowal of Davd Duke--"I disavow. Okay?"--(but not of all white supremacists) this weekend was only the latest incident in a long line of the Trump family's dodgy history with race.

Trump's dad, who left behind an inheritance of between $250 and $300 million...much of which went toward financing Donald's "business success"...had his own nasty scrapes over segregation, including his alleged arrest at a KKK protest near his home in Jamaica Estates, Queens in 1927. (Of course, his son insists: "He was never there! It never happened. Never took place.”

But one thing Trump can't brush under the carpet was a 1973 suit by the U.S. Department of Justice charging the Trump Organization with refusing to rent apartments to minorities at the buildings it owned and operated. In 1975, The Trump Organization agreed to a consent decree described by the head of the housing division as "one of the most far-reaching ever negotiated." It required Trump to advertise vacancies in minority papers, promote minorities to professional jobs, and list vacancies on a preferential basis with the Open Housing Center of the Urban League. Less than three years later, the Justice Department charged Trump with contempt of the consent decree, and filed pending motions in Brooklyn federal court to compel compliance. The complaint charged that "racially discriminatory conduct by Trump agents has occurred with such frequency that it has created a substantial impediment to the full enjoyment of equal opportunity."

Donald Trump's response at the time: "We are not going to be forced by anyone to put people...in our buildings to the detriment of tenants who have, for many years, lived in these buildings, raised families in them, and who plan to continue to live there. That would be reverse discrimination," he said. "The government is not going to experiment with our buildings to the detriment of ourselves and the thousands who live in them now."

The Trump family's discriminatory practices were not unique to the 1970s, however. One of Fred Trump's better known tenants in the 1940's was celebrated folk artist Woody Guthrie, who despised the elder Trump for his racist views and even wrote verses about him:

    I suppose
    Old Man Trump knows
    Just how much
    Racial Hate
    he stirred up
In the bloodpot of human hearts
    When he drawed
    That color line
    Here at his
    Eighteen hundred family project

Obama's father was a low life, his mentor was a terrorist, his pastor was an anti American Radical.....yeah lets focus on that.

One thing in Trump's defense though...he did say he would not allow people to starve in the streets in a heated exchange with Cruz during the last debate...(wow). I thought it was pathetic that Cruz looked and sounded incredulous when Trump stated that, which I took to mean that Cruz would allow people to starve. Anyway, just though I'd mention this as found the entire thing so bizarre. Did anyone else catch this?

What Trump said, on a few occasions, was that he would not allow people to "die in the streets." And the response came up in the discussions of universal health care.

Still, I'm not at all sure if that had as much to do with providing better healthcare services or hiring more street sweepers.

    He was spot on.

But, he forgot that his mother was a tramp.

But Ted "Snake Oil" Cruz seemed to infer that he would do neither.

Trump's a populist. He's for everyone being able to have the basic necessities.

    Well, that's true.

But then Cruz never claimed to be as "great" as Trump. :)

Btw, the whole media-fabricated "Klan" thing is a non-issue. Trump actually soared up to 49% polling yesterday, and he's going to sweep Super Tuesday today.

    Thread Fail.

What? Why? You brought up Trump's family, didn't you? And the latest thing you had on Trump, before it got all tl;dr, was from four decades ago. Hey, can we remember how recently Obama was a homophobe who opposed gay marriage? Because that's fair and that counts, right? That's not too far in the past to be relevant, and in no way hyperbole, is it?

    a) Why? Because well, gee...I hate to break it to you, but Obama's not running this time.

    b) "The latest thing on Trump..." Hardly. Just one many things that has yet to be mentioned here.

    c) Obama again. LOL! Obviously, you'd rather talk about the many failures of George W. Bush.

    This really made me laugh.

But seriously the 'won't let people die in the streets' was not an indication of Trump's humanity so much as it was a lower limit to the coverage of his health care plan: "we'll stop just short of letting people die in the streets" is another way of putting it. Prior to that he committed to government paid Canadian style universal coverage so obviously he doesn't have a clue what his healthcare plan is going to be.

Try to stay on topic. It's ok to go more than 5 mins without crying about Obama.

I think Drumpf has done a great service by exposing how many racists there still are in this country. Clearly, his life of privilege has shaped his views on a lot of people he considers lesser human beings. Rather than face their own faults and failures, republicans love the idea of blaming someone else for their lot in life. That's why Drumpf has been so successful with the uneducated racists that permeate our country.

He's about 50 years too late, as demographics, experience, and education has made the general population far less ignorant than it was when the civil rights movement started.

Looks like a skeevy tramp to me. Probably couldn't get a decent man, and had to settle for anything.

Too bad about the wicked witch of the west face, too.
