Officials at the Legatum Institute, an international think tank based in London, announced the findings for the latest annual Prosperity Index. The U.S. didn’t make the cut. The top ten list follows:

    1. Norway
    2. Switzerland
    3. Denmark
    4. New Zealand
    5. Sweden
    6. Canada
    7. Australia
    8. Netherlands
    9. Finland
    10. Ireland

Speaking as an Irish-American, it is surprising a country with so many drunken “Micks” is more prosperous than the most powerful country in the world. Apparently, military might and corporate greed are not required for a nation to be prosperous for the majority of citizens.

    Well, there’s always next year.

You should look at their methodology, including their own list of anomalies in their data. "Prosperity" is misleading in the context in which i is being used.

How can we be prosperous with more in the wagon than those who are pulling it? Entitlements grow exponentially and we are inundated with illegal alien parasites who are swelling those numbers. Industry got sick of the EPA and taxes and left long ago, the only jobs left are in the service sector many of which are for providing services for illegals. How insane is that? In spite of Obooger's assertion that we are not exceptional we are still the greatest nation in the history of civilization and it is only the self hating progressives that deny that and are trying to destroy it. I wouldn't take what a foreign think tank says about America seriously.

    From the link...

Seems to me that if one's life is doing well in these areas, they are indeed prospering. What the hell else is there? The list covers EVERYTHING that would constitute what would make for a "prosperous" lifestyle.

The decline of an economic empire is never pretty and this one is already getting particularly ugly.

I think that's a pretty comprehensive list that describes prosperity.

However, you'd think that those that equate prosperity only with the size of the maximum stash of money one can amass, the list is probably socialistic.

In any case, the US is No.33 in terms of safety and security. Who would have thunk that when people have to fear for their physical safety (because of too many guns) and job safety (because they can be fired any day) they tend to be less prosperous? Spending too much thought on how to make ends meed from the next paycheck is not compatible with being the next Bill Gates. Isn't that common sense?

Now look at the list of anomolies. It appears to me that much of the methodology is passed on polling samples, not concrete economic data.

Heh, well the US has made some poor policy decisions the past few years. We don't have smart leadership, and are unlikely to get any, so I suspect further declines.

That's what importing more than a million legal and illegal immigrants a year with no skills, no education and no link with the fading dominant culture will bring you.

And how many of these countries have a "social democracy" system?

    Go Bernie!

You are correct, however you omitted that this occurred after four years of Barack Obama and his "Fundamental Transformation of America". See:

Legatum ranking: U.S. slides out of top 10 most prosperous ...
    http://business.financialpost.com/n...ous-countries-while-canada-keeps-no-6-ranking
November 5, 2012 -- U.S. slips out of top 10 most prosperous countries, while Canada keeps No. 6 ranking. "With the presidential election just a week away, the research group said the standing of the U.S. economy has deteriorated to beneath that of 19 rivals. The report also showed that respect for the government has fallen, fewer Americans perceive working hard gets you ahead, while companies face higher startup costs and the export of high-technology products is dropping."
Obama really accomplished a lot within his first four years, he not only destroyed it's economy, he withdrew troops from Iraq creating a vacuum that allowed the rise of ISIS. In fact help assisted further by funding them through the Muslim Brotherhood and gave them weapons shipped from Libya via Turkey. That's what Benghazi was all about.

Have you also looked at a map of the Middle East back in 2008 and what the map of the Middle East looks like today ?

What changed back in 2009 ?

There is one particular demographic element those countries don't have which always bring down our percentages. What could that be?

Im surprised this hasnt been posted yet that Obama is rated the 3rd most powerful person in the world. This is the 1st time a sitting US president has not been in the top 2.

Using standards set by conservatives and neoconservatives, the U.S. is definitely at the top of the list as a prosperous nation. But they decide prosperity based on income inequality. So, with the middle class shrinking and the ranks of those living below the poverty level growing, they are correct. The U.S. is indeed a most prosperous.

Sadly, the right-wingers’ method of gauging a nation’s prosperity requires tens of millions of families to live in needless squalor to benefit those the conservatives and neoconservatives worship as the “job creators”.

It seems the trickle down Reagan and the Republicans promised and the conservatives and neoconservatives constantly tout, is only for a select few.

And this is after seven years of Obama. Shouldn't that tell you something?

    Vote Trump 2016. Problem solved.

What do you expect? Everything is over priced, wages are fixated into a 30 year freeze, our schools are a joke, we are literally being invaded by criminal illegal aliens who are just here to mooch off the government for free stuff, and we have the most corrupt two party plutocracy making sure that only a small percentage of the entire population is allowed to prosper. No matter how hard you try and decorate a dog turd it's still a dog turd.
