No one can really honestly argue that we do not have a problem with gun deaths in this country. So this is the solutions page. No complaints or insults needed. Solutions to this problem are welcome. I have often pushed for mandatory training and universal background checks. Lets see who gets the prize for the first insult. LOL

What guns deaths in particular? Suicides, gang violence, or other homicide, or accidents? Over 60% of gun deaths in the U.S. are suicides, most of the homicides are gang on gang violence, and the rest involves everything else. If you take away the guns to deal with suicide, how does that prevent it? Remove building for the jumpers? Water for the drowners? Pills for the overdosers? Knives for the cutters? Sheets/wires for the hangers? Death by cop? How about the gang on gang violence, or rather the baddie on baddie violence? Where does one begin to stop the gangs? Whether they get guns "legally" or "illegally" they'll have them. Say you can take them away? What about the bats, the knives, the cars, the wires? How do gangs in jail kill other people there without guns? Is removing guns from them working? Would you feel safe among them without them having guns, and without yourself having one? Want to make a bet on how long till you get shanked? Other homicides, let's say the guns are taken away, how does the dead girl who got rapped and killed without a gun deal with that? You're robbed at night, and you're a gun owner following the laws but your gun is locked up. Will they give you time to unlock it, put it together? Are you safe from gunless criminals? You're leaning on the cops maybe? How long till they get there? Will the criminals hear you? Will they ignore you? Your proposal is mandatory training, as if there are no weaknesses to that either. Explain the following with your solution:

Oh poo, no insults just truth.

Guns do not die, lol, leetle joke.

The people getting killed are most Gang Bangers and Drug dealers and other paragons of virtue, Sarcasm here.

The majority of White Folks, I am a Hispanic by the way, are not committing Crimes and have concealed carry permits and legal Firearms.

So you are left with inner city slum dwellers, Felons and other Criminals living like Swine and killing each other off.

Liberals want a cease fire, they can go to those Areas and get shot too.

    Good riddance to bad Rubbish.

Neither solution will do much to end gun deaths. Roughly 2/3 of gun deaths are suicide. Training or universal background checks won't stop suicide.

Mandatory training could cut gun deaths a very little bit--the accidental ones. However, accidental gun deaths are down a lot in the last 30 years or so anyway. There is really no need. If you want to stop more deaths, you would require more automobile driver training. Per CDC's WISQARS database: http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/mortrate9.html
In 1981, there were 1871 accidental gun deaths (0.82 per 100k population) of people of all ages. In 1998, this number was 866 (.31 per 100k). In 2014 (last year with available data in WISQARS for public at large), this number was 586 (0.18 per 100k). Accidental gun deaths are about 1/5 of what they were. No real solutions to this, since it's not a real problem. Literally 1.8 in a million people die from gun accidents.

Universal background checks will do almost nothing to stop gun deaths.

Neither have you, but I'm not sure where I complained about anything. Do tell. And also answer my inquiries to you in that first post. I have a feeling, like Hillary, you're going to continue to ignore me even though you respond to me.

Solution offered. Everyone has seem me post this, but I'll do it again because anti gun folks don't care nearly as much about public safety as much as gun control.

71% of those arrested for violent crimes are recidivists. They have been arrested before for similar crimes........ 71%!!!!

Our criminal justice system is in serious need of reform. We need to end the failed war on drugs that incarcerates far too many for non violent criminals. This will help make room for the repeat violent criminal that our justice system keeps releasing onto our streets to create more victims.

Many of those convicted of violent gun crimes have long rap sheets. How does this happen? These folks should be behind bars for lengthy, lengthy sentences with no early release. Taking care of this problem alone will help curb inner city shootings quickly.

We allow felonious violent criminals to plea bargain down to misdemeanors in the interest of expediting the process. This needs to stop.
Our early release program lets violent criminals out of prison after serving only partial sentences.
We need stiff, stiff, penalties those arrested for flagrant violent crimes.

If we did this we would seriously have a large percentage of fewer victims of violent crime.
Our liberal politicians want nothing to do with stiffer penalties for violent crime. They already complain about Americas' incarceration rate.
To implement these policies that would lead to increased incarceration rates would disproportionately effect minorities.
    BLM would go ballistic.

It's much more politically correct to attack our violence problem by going after guns, not criminals.

    National Statistics on Recidivism:

Bureau of Justice Statistics studies have found high rates of recidivism among released prisoners. One study tracked 404,638 prisoners in 30 states after their release from prison. The researchers found that:

Property offenders were the most likely to be rearrested, with 82.1 percent of released property offenders arrested for a new crime compared with 76.9 percent of drug offenders, 73.6 percent of public order offenders and 71.3 percent of violent offenders.

I believe there are plenty of non violent criminals behind bars to make room for violent repeat offenders that are currently not serving time but should be.

Are you in favor of legalizing all drugs and locking violent offenders away for life

The drugs thing needs to be looked at very closely by those in positions with the real knowledge.
I believe we let violent criminals back into society through plea bargains and early release programs.
Stop with plea bargains for violent criminals and stop with the early release programs for these same criminals.

Looked at closely is not answering the question. You are proposing the single most expensive option on the table. It will cost billions. Are you in favor of a tax hike?

If democrats would stop shooting people we wouldn't have a problem.

Mandatory training for who, murderers? That's hilariously ridiculous as a crime prevention solution. Nor does it address suicide.

UBC? Murderers don't register their firearms, they steal them. Besides, if a felon is caught with a firearm, they cannot be prosecuted for not registering it, so what good does that piece of idiocy do? Again, also does nothing about suicide.

There's only one solution, and that is removing violent people from society.

    - - - Updated - - -

How much money do you think it will take to enact your ridiculous suggestion of UBC for nearly 400 million + firearms already in circulation?

That, and it won't do a thing about crime.

You either have violent people in society where they can kill, or they are removed from society. You pay in lives or money, our choice.

I'm not convinced a tax hike is necessary. We waste so much money in government, and with proper leadership we could free up a lot of money to keep people safe in this country. Reducing sentences of low level drug misdemeanors will help too. With the proper leadership we can create more tax paying jobs to help with costs too.
Don't you think that if we are releasing billions of dollars worth of violent felons back into society that its a HUGE problem?
Is it your argument that our government cannot afford to keep its citizens safe from repeat violent offenders?
I guarantee you it's a problem for the next of their victims when they find out the this repeat offender should be in jail.
It's the responsibility of our government to enforce existing laws that help keep its citizens safe.

Incarcerating people is incredibly expensive. I don't disagree with you. I just know it will be incredibly expensive

    Agreed.
Also more should be done to rehabilitate prisoners instead of just locking them away, that should help with the high level of recidivism

We pay one way or the other.

The question is do you pay in lives or money.

This brings us back to the beginning.

Why do we carry firearms? To protect ourselves because of the governments inability to ensure our life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

EDIT: Look up Project Exile. It works.

And it will be effective. Isn't that what you really want? An effective way to deal with violent deaths?
Believe me... it can be done with the correct leadership. We waste a lot of money. We can find money to make it happen.

    Why not?
    It makes sense.
Many offences are committed by addicts looking for money to buy drugs.
Treatment for the addiction would be made a lot easier.

A multifaceted problem will require a multifaceted solution. One of the biggest issues is gang violence that to one degree or another is a product of the black market drug trade. I wonder what impact decriminalization of drugs would have upon gang violence as it would take a prime source of revenue and power away from the gangs.
