The Forgotten Maritime Tragedy That Was 6 Times Deadlier Than the Titanic
January 29, 2016 - The sinking of the Titanic may be the most infamous naval disaster in history, and the torpedoing of the Lusitania the most infamous in wartime. But with death counts of about 1,500 and 1,200 respectively, both are dwarfed by what befell the Wilhelm Gustloff, a German ocean liner that was taken down by a Soviet sub on Jan. 30, 1945, killing 9,343 people—most of them war refugees, about 5,000 of them children.

You have not taken into account the exchange rate against better peoples.

    Oh The Humanity,
How many innocent Children, etc. did they or their nation murder.
I shed no tears for the people killed on the Willelm Gustoff.
They should have stayed in their nation.

Oh, how about the numbers for the Lusitania too.
Torpedoed by a German submarine a few decades earlier.

The Germans got off too easy after WW2 as the focus went to the Cold War.

Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.
