First and foremost, im not at all a liberal and have literally zero love for Islam (or any religion). I say this just to get all the pre-conceived notions about being some sort of Islamic apologist out of the way, I am a Marxist and there is no doubt in anyones mind we would get rid of Islam entirely in a heartbeat if given the option. Not even the right wing can deny this. So, with that out of the way, lets talk about the word "Islamophobia". People say the word itself is ridiculous, because "phobia" means "irrational fear" and being afraid of Islam is not "irrational". Sure, some people may indeed be scared of Islam, but its a rational position and is thus not a "phobia". Thats the argument, at least. Arachnophobia. Is being scared of spiders really "irrational"? No, being scared of spiders is very smart, you SHOULD be afraid of spiders, its a rational position. Yet, we still use the word "arachnophobia". Why? Well, when we say someone has "arachnophobia", it doesnt mean his fear of spiders is irrational, it means his LEVEL of fear is irrational. Being scared of spiders is fine, but being so scared of them you faint when you see one? Thats an irrational fear, you should be scared of spiders but not THAT scared. The same applies to Islam. Being afraid of Islam is fine, thats not Islamophobia, but if you are SO scared of Islam you want to ban shariah law in Missouri as a top priority? Yeah, THATS Islamophobia, you are irrationally scared of Islam to a point where you are literally incapacitated when thinking about it. Does that mean liberals are using the word properly? No, they dont even use the ****ing word "liberal" properly, what do you expect? Homophobia. Is anyone actually SCARED of gay people? When we use the word "homophobia" nobody uses it to mean "an irrational fear of gay people", what we mean when we use the word (both the left and the right) is a hatred for gay people, not a fear. If someone calls someone homophobic they dont mean to say that person is deathly afraid of gay people, what they mean is that the person hates gay people, that is simply how we use the word despite it being obviously incorrect. Its not just the left that uses the word in that way, the right wing uses the word in that way also without question. Society in general uses the word in that sense. Its wrong, but literally EVERYONE is wrong in the same way, we simply changed the meaning culturally. I love etymology and just thought this fight was pretty funny since both sides are clearly wrong.
I don't get it. Why would it be bad to ban Sharia Law anywhere in the USA? We are a sovereign state with our own legal system. Why would a separate, parallel legal system be of any value? Is destruction of the American form of government all a Marxist hopes for these days? If Sharia were to gain traction here, it sure wouldn't step aside to let Marxism take over. I think you've staked yourself to a losing ideology.
If Shariah were to gain traction there, it wouldnt give a flying **** about some stupid law banning it. So why ban it? Why is it a top priority? Besides, Shariah Law is already by definition banned in America because we have separation of Church and State. Its already extremely illegal and unconstitutional, the only reason people want to ban it is because they have an irrational level of fear towards Islam. Fearing Islam is fine, but you dont have to be peeking under your bed at night for a Muslim radical.
