    i know that its not news anymore, but still how low RR will fall in one month from now? - 60-70 R. Rubles for 1 $ ?

    The Russian ruble suddenly soared against the dollar and the euro, and at once by six percent. Such a powerful spurt in such a short time is an exceptional case for many years. In this case the fundamental factors that two months steadily lowered the ruble did not disappear, giving rise to a curious version of the reasons for such a reversal.

    The rouble has lost a third of its value against the basket of major currencies since 2011. Its headline rate was 27.5 R to the dollar back then . It is currently trading at 41.5 R. to the dollar

    Let's hope it goes down and stays down prompting a second Russian Revolution. Hearing Putin was shot trying to escape will be good news for many people living under his boot.

    That's due to one off mass sale of foreign currencies forced about by the free flow of the Ruble to new record lows this week:

    Commerzbank AG said the Bank of Russia may have abolished its existing intervention rules today and engineered a “substantial one-off” sale of foreign currencies, which triggered a “massive” ruble rally.

    Today’s move “looks like indirect indications by the central bank of Russia to the local banking community that ‘enough is enough’,” Simon Quijano-Evans, London-based head of Commerzbank’s emerging-research, wrote in a note. “This would de-facto be the first step towards abandoning the ruble basket band policy, which would be a strong positive for the ruble in our view.”

    This was due to direct central bank intervention, we'll be hearing tomorrow how many Billions they spent today in order to stop a complete deflation of the Rule.

    Yes, but that wasn't what was done. The Ukrainians wanted to leave the Russian sphere of influence. If you can't figure out why, then I suggest you pick up a book on the USSR.
