They are all gone, but Assad is still there. What they didn't take into account was the will of the Syrian people, Russia's military help, and Lavrov's diplomatic efforts.

Hmm, I thought Trump said it too? Or has he just flat out ignored it for the most part?

If we were to quit arming so-called 'moderate rebels' there would be more surviving Syrians and less refugees living abroad.

. . . and mercifully forgotten, into the dustbin of history where the losers belong. I recently read that although Syria is just rubble now, Damascus is almost untouched, so maybe the Syrians who had to leave can start returning home - not that they wanted to leave in the first place.

 There's that word again - 'barrel' bombs. PF's all-knowing oracle of the middle east region speaks.

    Reality sucks.

Assad 'dropped 13,000 barrel bombs on Syria in 2016 ...

The report from the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) found that Syrian regime helicopters dropped 12,958 barrel bombs in 2016 in total. The strikes resulted in the deaths of 653 civilians, SNHR found, including 166 children and 86 women. Most were dropped on rebel-held suburbs of Damascus ...

Russia Says Syria Rejects New Constitution Diluting Assad ...

Syria won’t accept a Russian plan for a new constitution that would dilute the powers of President Bashar al-Assad, in a setback for Kremlin efforts to negotiate an end to the seven-year civil war.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ejects-new-constitution-diluting-assad-powers

Russia’s plan for a draft constitution calls for decentralizing some power from the central government, setting a maximum of two consecutive seven-year presidential terms and allowing the parliament to remove the head of state from office.

Assad’s refusal to accept any weakening of his power shows he “does not want a political solution,” said Yahya al-Aridi, a spokesman for the main Syrian opposition group. “This makes the Assad regime’s position in direct conflict with the Russian position.”

The upcoming presidential elections will be no different from previous elections under the Assad regime. Even if the elections were democratic and transparent, Bashar al-Assad would win based on his constitutional powers alone.

    Curse? Sure, but...

Democratic leaders come and go, this is how democracies work. Free elections &stuff. Only bloody dictators keep their behinds glued to the presidential throne at all costs. Your picture says the opposite of what you claim it does.

    The curse is on Syria.

For the risk of going to war against Russia, I can understand that, but the lying part is just to save face, its not "fear" if nothing happened,
Now thousands of refugees seek refuge near Israel border, Israel creates a safe haven for them, at Jordan consent, changing the border between Israel, Jordan and Syria to include the refugees, I saw IDF crossing into Syria to deliver aid, I hope Assad will be stupid enough to try us.

The will of the Syrian ppl is spread all across the ME up to Europe and in cemeteries, throw Assad to a Turkish or Jordanian refugee camp to witness the full scale of the Syrian ppl "will".
