You get a bit better view by going there. But who visits Sweden to check for crime? They learn of it on the media. They follow sources to see how safe a place is.

When I was in Germany as a soldier, I did not feel particularly safe in Schweinfurt. The city was not violent but only the blind was not aware of what was just a few miles away in Czechoslovakia. And Russia was over the plains at Fulda Gap. Were there rapes? Frankly the local women had more to fear from the troops we had there than the natives of the city.

To know Sweden would mean we could set with Swedes and talk to many of them. To get more than one opinion. Who has time on a vacation to spend a lot of time chatting with the locals? So yes, you can get excellent reports from sources that do not mean you must first be on the soil of Sweden.
