I always laugh when people whine about how their tax money is spent. Just imagine that your taxes are being applied to buy toilet paper for the rest rooms in the House of Representatives.

Homeless families? In the USA are existing homeless families? A simple repair of the roof of our little church here costed by the way about € 600,000 - that's a little more than $ 700,000. Someone shot some little holes in the roof in word war 2. I guess the next time to repair it will be in some hundred years.

Why do you think the money for building the crosses has something to do - what exactly? - with homeless families? On the other side: Still I'm not able to imagine what a homeless family could be. Do you speak really about a family = father, mother, children - who are homeless all together?

Because our society pays special deference to religion. Look at what the Catholic Chuch has gotten away with in the past decade, for example.

Is not my money, why do I might care?

As long as the construction goes in accord to the code... if any inspection... I'll pass it...

Because no other business is allowed the same. First, all donations to the church are tax deductable and second, do you think building codes would allow a country club to build 3 120 foot tall golf clubs as a visual testament to their hobby to everyone driving down the highway?

How about an adult toy store erecting 3 120-foot dildoes? Yes, pun intended.
