I may need your help. Today I bought for almost $40, including CA tax a 1.75 liter bottle of Makers Mark. I wavered from my standby Scoresby Scotch. For a X mas present, you must try Scoresby Scotch. It is half the cost of Makers Mark and silk smooth. No hint of burning as you drink it. Makers Mark is a bit more powerful as to Alcohol content. It has 45 percent vs 40 percent for Scoresby. Scoresby is a very rare blended Scotch Whiskey. I have my doubts I will ever buy more Makers Mark and here all this time I heard it was awesome. So, you drinkers of Makers mark, whom has drank Scoresby? I had a strange thing take place prior to this post. I went to grab the empty bottle of Scoresby and got to the door and froze. I felt paralyzed for maybe a minute. Not sure why since this never happened before. I hope it is not due to the Makers Mark. I am now sitting so at the moment things are fine. By the way, for many years now I have drank scotch at times. Normally now a year or two passes between drinking other than a few beers once in a while. I have drank some of the finest Scotch whiskeys. Some when in Germany supplied by a German pilot who flew the rich people to Schweinfurt and was the sole German civilian allowed to land at the Army airport. Glenlivet? Definitely. GlenFiddich darned tootin. I honestly know I have forgot a few of the fine premium scotchs but I found out I truly enjoy Scoresby.
This Makers Mark has some kick. I got up to walk and the stuff darned near paralyzed me. Scotch thank the lord of the Scotch makers has yet do treat me that way. I purchased the only 1.75 liter of Makers Mark I shall ever drink from.
Looks as if we have no Scotch or Makers Mark buyers. Second day, my body tolerated Makers Mark better since I no longer found myself virtually paralyzed standing up and wondering if I was going to move again. Very weird feeling. My long life of drinking many types of booze and never had that happen before. The feeling comes short of terror since the mind seems too numb for that. Today I have had none of the Makers Mark. Supposedly the taste was delicious. I am sticking with grape cranberry juice though earlier it was coffee. While I would not call it delicious, I would call it expensive even at the discount spirits store up the street. Prices at the Wine store are about the same as at Costco store. They have some extremely expensive wine too and this I shall never purchase.
American whiskeys are a different breed from Scotch whiskeys. I have had over 100 different Scotch’s and now find I like the smokier ones like Caol Ila or Taliskers.
I have bought a few bottles of MM in my time. It doesn’t really blow my skirt up. I don’t feel it’s worth the price.
Scoresby is much lower cost than the expensive brands and was part of my post comments. Excellent though low cost.
I had to go and buy the 1.75 liter when I had put in plenty of thought to getting the smaller size. Wish I followed my instinct. Anyway, I shall not waste it.

The smokiest scotch is 10 yr Laphroaig and has a strong iodine taste but the Laphroaig 10 yr cask strength is a different animal and I like it a lot.

Unfortunately with the rise in popularity the cost has risen. Not to be outdone some of us are associated with an artisan distillery and plan on distilling a barrel of smoked whiskey just for fun.
With regular strength scotch you might put in a drop or two of water in your glass which frees up some of the flavor but with cask strength, add more water to bring down the total alcohol content and the flavor shines.
Here in my city, no doubt we have some who are well stocked on the very very expensive varieties of alcohol drinks. I have seen at least one very stocked wine cellar here.
I will try to put a bit of water into the Makers Mark. Gee, now it looks like cheap booze compared to those Scotch Whiskey's . LOL
A friend of mine has a collection of at least up to 100 different scotches and also a wine collection. Two of each of the scotch, one stored and one for visitors to sample.
I recall one home I appraised that when I walked down into the lowest area of the home, the owner had an enormous part devoted to his collection of wines and other liquors. He was the owner of a firm that installed dropped office ceilings and believe it or not, was then building a much larger home further up in the hills to move to. His wife was at home and let me in. She told me his business.
