"Voters in the staunchly conservative state had just four months earlier authorized a medical marijuana program and sales were just beginning. The Bakers immediately saw the potential for the fledgling market. With no limits on marijuana business licenses, scant restrictions on who can obtain a medical card, and cheap land, energy and building materials, they believed Oklahoma could become a free-market weed utopia and they wanted in. Indeed, Oklahoma has established arguably the only free-market marijuana industry in the country. Unlike almost every other state, there are no limits on how many business licenses can be issued and cities can’t ban marijuana businesses from operating within their borders. In addition, the cost of entry is far lower than in most states: a license costs just $2,500. In other words, anyone with a credit card and a dream can take a crack at becoming a marijuana millionaire." https://www.politico.com/news/magaz...t-oklahoma-red-state-weed-legalization-437782
well it's apparently the thing now. I was against it but obviously I was overruled by the will of the people so it is what it is. It will be interesting to watch it's development and impacts in the future.
What will be interesting is where they will be getting their supply of marijuana? Are they also going to be allowed to grow their own? Import? Makes you wonder how that is going to work. Will the department of highway safety have a special code for someone driving under the influence of marijuana or will it be the same DUI?
I know that the cartels make a billion per year from it so I don't think they are just going to quietly give it up. Nobody wants to mention that however. I wonder why?
It will not be a pretty scene but then when does anything that is politicized become pretty in this day and age. This is just something that someone will look back on and regret.
Because it's fiction. Legal grows are money cartels do not get. The only thing that ever nearly killed the Mafia was ending Prohibition.
As has been done in most parts of Canada, this kind of move toward legalization is quickly followed by the citizens' rights to grow their own plants, with a maximum allowance. That cuts into the profitability of these kinds of businesses though. So will be interesting to know if this is a move for the people or for small business.
It took a generation for them to recover. But you made my point for me... they moved on to other things.
