Disclaimer: When it came to deciding which forum to post this OP it was a choice between Religion & Philosophy (Separation of church & state, etc) and Political Opinions & Beliefs (Voice yours/others opinions & beliefs). Giving it some thought I came to the conclusion that the right choice is the PO&B forum because this is about an Editorial Opinion giving Voice to the Beliefs of those engaging in a Political issue.

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/chri...emoval-from-office_n_5dfbfe53e4b0843d35f8ea9b

Granted he does not speak for ALL evangelicals. However he does speak out AGAINST the HYPOCRISY of condemning Clinton for his moral failings while turning a blind eye to the egregious moral failings of the now impeached BLOTUS.

Both of them had moral failings but only the IBLOTUS has committed CRIMES separate and apart from his moral failings.

So the questions for this OP are directed at those evangelicals who condemned Clinton for his moral failings and yet are NOW supporting the moral failings of the BLOTUS.

Is the editor correct that your political expediency will cost evangelicals their credibility to ever address moral issues in the future?

Are you being disloyal to the "creator" of the 10 Commandments by supporting the BLOTUS and voting for him in 2020?

Those are very profound questions that go to the core of what it means to be an evangelical Christian.

They expose the reality of embracing biblical values in your every day life and living them to the fullest extent possible as opposed to just paying lip service to them for the sake of political expediency.

In essence there is a moral dilemma when it comes to evangelicals supporting the immoral BLOTUS. They must choose between their core values and their partisan political allegiance. And then, at some point in the future according to their own beliefs, they will be called to account for the choice they made. No matter the excuse will they find themselves wanting because they were tested and their faith was weaker than the peer pressure they felt to conform to embracing an odious political shyster?

So with that in mind how do evangelicals here at PF answer the two questions posed in the OP? Are they willing to take the risks inherent in those choices? Or will they heed the warning in the editorial?

    Your thoughts?

Trump Should Be Removed from Office
It’s time to say what we said 20 years ago when a president’s character was revealed for what it was.
    https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2019/december-web-only/trump-should-be-removed-from-office.html

"But the facts in this instance are unambiguous: The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president’s political opponents. That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral."
    ..................................................................................................................
This editorial is notable for its intellectual honesty and consistency. Because CT called for Clinton's impeachment along the same moral grounds they call for Trump's.
    .......................................................................................................................
"The reason many are not shocked about this is that this president has dumbed down the idea of morality in his administration. He has hired and fired a number of people who are now convicted criminals. He himself has admitted to immoral actions in business and his relationship with women, about which he remains proud. His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused."
    ..........................................................................................................................
So..........he's UNAMBIGUOUSLY guilty..........and he is morally unfit to be prez.

Yeah but, Trumpette's say........how about that tax cut that is bankrupting us?

For a little more perspective on this issue I was doing some polling research and came across this headline.

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/99-of-...estants-oppose-impeaching-and-removing-trump/

The same data was mentioned in the Atlantic.

    https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/10/trump-white-evangelical-impeachment/600376/

A search of the PRRI link did not reveal the actual poll itself from what I could determine.

If this data is correct then the Editorial in the OP is at variance with Evangelicals.

Makes one wonder if that was just a lone voice in the wilderness.

Trump has chimed in calling Billy Graham's magazine radical far left. I can't imagine what he'd call me if they are radical far left. He also missed the point that while the impeachment hearings were the final straw they were condemning his body of work over the last 3 years.

The choice for evangelicals is whether to worship at the alter of God or the alter of Donald Trump. This has always been the choice for Evangelicals and they have failed the test numerous times. Is their's a message of salvation or of political expediency that consistently favors one political party over another? Evangelicals have always had great difficulty in abiding by the words of Jesus, "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto God that which is God's."

Does their Church drive their politics, or does their politics drive their Church?

I'm Eastern Orthodox, why should I care about what an Evangelical rag has to say about the president?

I think that what Sean Davies said last night applies almost across the board, not just to his observations of the impeachment hearing, but to the democratic logic overall.

"It was like watching a bunch of frustrated monkeys trying to hump a doorknob."

No. They chose evil for the sake of political expediency. They knew who they were supporting and they chose to ignore it. The new "christian" mantra is "The ends justify the means! Choose evil over good so we can win in the courts!!!"

Not in the least surprised that the IBLOTUS would have that reaction since he cannot handle any form of criticism.

It would be interesting to find out the reactions of the evangelicals at BG's magazine to being called "radical far left" by their "Chosen One". ;)

idk, but CT left the tracks a good bit ago. Not influential in Christianity, never really got traction, and is condemned by Billy Graham's son.

Good question and TBH it has always appeared to be the latter ever since Pat Robertson founded his misnamed "moral majority" movement because everything they supported turned out to be immoral in one way or another.

All the more reason why it's probably better that we have a separation of church and state.

The very essence of religion IS hypocrisy. Between rellgions, and within religions- because so many religious people are told and believe that following a particular religious thread makes you righteous, and thereby you would have the right to denigrate others who are of different beliefs. You will find you beliefs above the law, forgive your own transgressions, at the same time you crucify others for theirs.

Religions serve a purpose for people- sometimes a good one, but often a very poor one. To have any religious spokesman trash others is much like a fart in the wind- small, obnoxious, soon gone, forever forgotten.

In essence there is a much more substantial dilemma when it comes to Evangelicals supporting the immoral Democrat Party.

Ralph Northam put this to bed quickly for me when he first lied about not being in a Klan outfit in his college yearbook.
And then topping it off by saying that a baby would be made comfortable right before determining if the baby would be kept alive after it had been born.
Your own words Derideo: "And then, at some point in the future according to their own beliefs, they will be called to account for the choice they made..."

The Mike Pence quote I use often speaks volumes:
"This election is not about the difference between two people.
It is about the difference between two futures!"

Since I was paraphrasing their beliefs those are technically not "my own words" but no big deal, just don't want to take credit for the religious beliefs of others.

Moving on to what Pence said has he bothered to look at the STARK difference in morality between the Obama administration and the corrupt and criminal IBLOTUS regime?

If anything Pence has been INSTRUMENTAL in moving the nation even further towards IMMORALITY so he doesn't have much wiggle room.

And if Pence was a man of strong Christian principles and values he would have REJCTED the IBLOTUS's offer of the VP slot. Instead he sold out his values for own nefarious political ambitions.

So I would not place much credibility on Pence as the "keeper of the faith".
