“In the most extreme circumstances we have made it very clear that you can’t rule out the use of nuclear weapons as a first strike,” Fallon told the BBC’s Today program.

When asked in what circumstances, he replied: “They are better not specified or described, which would only give comfort to our enemies and make the deterrent less credible.

“The whole point about the deterrent is that you have got to leave uncertainty in the mind of anyone who might be thinking of using weapons against this country.”

I don't see the problem here.

I see nothing so belligerent or foolhardy in these words. You're letting the Russian propaganda get you excited.

You simply don't understand what ' first strike ' means. You've allowed yourself to be conditioned into thinking that there could ever be a justification for it. Seek help.

You can justify a nuclear first strike.

Anyone who thinks that any nuclear release is a positive thing needs to seek serious mental help.

Nuh-uh, don't pull us into that conversation. Your own propaganda pretty much capable of mustering hysterical paranoics, thank you very much. Don't. Get us. Involved. Solve it between yourselves.

Why? He quoted the official line of pretty much all nuclear armed countries, certainly the Western ones. It’s largely a lie of course but they’re all fully aware of what the lie is so there’s no actual insanity there.

The man's a fool - take no notice of anything he says. I wonder HTF he's stayed at the top of British politics for some long. Must be someone he knows! And anyway, with the Brit obsession about being the global goody-two-shoes NO WAY would any of our politicos make a preemptive strike - they'd wait until we were hit first - and even then they'd be so reluctant they probably wouldn't. :wall:

Meh I read the whole article, it's all context and British party line ballyhoo. They're judt fussing again. Trident program is expensive.

On a more humorous note can anyone tell me WHY the Brits always look so freekin stressed out? Seriously harried looking haha in rumpled clothes and all in dire need of being tackled by a good barber?

What's the best means of defence against somebody with plans for a first strike against you ?
    Well, strike him first, obviously.

Any other swivel-eyed loons want to pitch in ?

I really don't think you understand the magnitude of what you're saying.

Delusional - USA and Britain. A nuclear first strike against Russia FOR WHAT?!?!?!

Before any moron who openly defends this, ask the Nazi's how easy Russia was. Russia beat back TWO HUNDRED DIVISIONS of the Reich. Over 5 million well equipped soldiers defeated, probably the most impressive standing army in human history. Then after the dust settles, USA comes in and says "YAY WE WON!!" Just no.

Everyone stop with the Russia talk. We're no longer the only bully in the playground.

Well I for one am for pro Russian and US relations. How they didn't end up one of our strongest allies after the big war is beyond me. Instead we got the cold war and a trillion dollars a year spent on NATO so we can babysit a bunch of crybabies in Europe.

I get it I get it we run NATO but the dots don't connect for me anymore from a citizens stand point with no stock in the military complex

But I do have to say " defeated" is a strong word when it comes to the handling of Germanys invasion of Russia. Russia then didn't have the tech or the military genius that Germany had to the likening of the US to say NK today. 20 million dead? Vs 3 million Germans and that's total Germans dead on all fronts? It was a slaughterhouse and the Russians never.. Ever.. quit.

What the Russian people have is an insurmountable resolve. Loyalty to their country that they see as an extention of themselves. Anyone not impressed by that proven fact is beyond words of stupid and ignorant

No one is throwing a nuke ever. Political grandstanding

You can lay that squarely at the feet of Winston Churchill- who wanted the Allies to continue their advance right through Germany and to drive the Russians back. The Brits soured the pitch for any real US/Russian detante post WW2- and then they screwed up the Middle East by mismanaging their Palestinian Mandate.

Now that the Brits are out of Europe- pretty much on their ear- they will be desperate to survive any United Nations Security Council reform. It's expected that they will start banging their nuclear drum to retain a place at the table - and here we go.

I know, but we're not in age of queen Victoria, we're in XXI century. Time to move on and build new relationships.

We must develop the economy and make new weapons. Let England worry about the relationship.
