https://germanculture.com.ua/german-holidays/christ-child/ About 50 per cent of the German children believe in the Christ Child and about 50 per cent believe in Santa Claus or Father Christmas.
Santa Claus...I assume he makes his rounds from Christmas eve through the morning hours of Christmas day...so I chose 24 and 25.
The English Royal family opens their presents on Christmas Eve instead of on Christmas Day. But it is not known whether the Christ Child or Father Chrismas brings them those gifts.
Here are those countries where the Christ Child is the bringer of gifts: "in Austria, Switzerland, southern and western Germany, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the eastern part of Belgium, Portugal, Slovakia, Hungary, parts of northeastern France, Upper Silesia in Poland, parts of Hispanic America, in certain areas of southern Brazil, and in the Acadiana region of Louisiana." >>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christkind
I just think: Maybe gifts around Christmas is a Catholic custom? And as I seem to be the only Catholic in this forum, hardly anybody here knows about this custom?
Never heard of Befana so I looked it up. And Italian custom of an old woman who delivers gifts on Epiphany Eve.

We traditionally do family gifts after dinner on the 24th and "Santa gifts" for the little ones on the morning of the 25th.
'Santa' always brought gifts after wee ones were asleep on December 24, all a sparkle to be opened in the morning of Christmas Day. We still do it that way.
That’s how it was when I was growing up, except mom and dad let us open one each after dinner at grandma’s on Christmas Eve.
