The deal should be the basis for raising the federal min wage. If it's good on trade deals, it has to be good for working Americans also.
Honestly not sure I have to say. The gist of your posts I Think I get is that you see this as a big win for you, and your happy we think it is as well so there doesn't have to be an argument as you consider us almost rube like? I'm more getting this from your posts to the other guy, as this particular response to me doesn't make much sense in that I'm not sure how it's a positive that you have to support your industry to such a level that you have to force it into markets to try and relieve the burden of over production. Or am I way off base?
My posts to you are my posts to you, his to him. I play to my audience. I respect you. I am glad we are both happy with the deal. I think it worked out a bit in our favor. We were being well abused by the NAFTA "court" system by corporate interests, and I come from a long line of Texas dairy farmers, so I am happy with Canadas agreement. Mexico, I am over the moon with, which is why everyone wants to focus on how "little" we gained from Canada in this agreement.
Yes, the worst deal in the history of trade agreements, was tweaked. Also, a minimum wage was put in for auto makers of $16/hr. So, now we have the RW actually wanting what unions want. A min wage. See, they are becoming the new democrats. While the old D's leave.
Chuck Schumer likes it. Chuck Schumer hailed Trump’s work in overhauling NAFTA. Noting that he’d opposed it since it first came to Congress, Schumer said that Trump “deserves praise” for significantly improving the trade agreement: “As someone who voted against NAFTA and opposed it for many years, I knew it needed fixing. The president deserves praise for taking large steps to improve it,” Schumer said. “Two areas where I particularly want to see the details are dairy, where our dairy farmers are being taken advantage of by Canada, and real enforcement of labor provisions,” Schumer continued. “Labor provisions are good, but too often they are written into trade bills and never enforced.” “If a final agreement is signed by all three countries, I also look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to write ‘implementing legislation’ to ensure the deal actually achieves these goals,” he added. Much of the opposition to NAFTA came from Democrats, unions opposed, They only fell in love with it after Trump attacked it. It passed as legislation in Congress because the treaty itself was not popular enough to win two-thirds ratification in the Senate. Washington Post: Even some left-leaning economists gave the president credit for bettering the existing trade bargain. “I’d argue this deal is an improvement, though enforcement will make or break that impression,” said Jared Bernstein, former economic adviser to Vice President Joe Biden. … It may not revamp trade in North America, but if it improves it for American workers, then it’s a win. And Democrats will be hard pressed to block it.
Ok wonderful. Sorry, text based limitations and all that. Also been a long day. 3 hour commute after 11 inches of snowfall today. Good times
The guys who got the election wrong got the trade war wrong, too President Trump caught reporters flat-footed in the election in 2016. He again caught them flat-footed in the renegotiation of NAFTA this summer.
CNN, Axios Suggest Trump Trade Tactics Working "Trump largely got his way. And now, no one can tell him his bull-in-a China-shop way won't work..."
Good deal for both sides. Canada saved it's auto industry. USA got steel tariffs, aluminum tariffs, dairy deal (which is also a win for the Canadian consumer), pharmaceutical deal, and intellectual deal it wanted. Canada saved an industry that was absolutely vital to their economic well being and Trump is bringing treasure and jobs to the USA. Everybody wins.
And is why it's so crazy these looney lefties on this board are so pissed and downplaying the win for America.
Freedom is good for working Americans. Fascist government telling companies how to run their business is not.
The White House said USMCA will govern $1.2 trillion in trade, making it the largest trade deal in U.S. history. The deal will open Canada’s dairy market to U.S. products, including fluid milks, cream, butter and cheese. It also imposes a limit on how many dairy products Canada can export and eliminates tariffs on margarine and whey. Trump said on Monday that “dairy was a deal breaker” during renegotiation discussions, particularly the stipulation that Canada eliminate a program that allowed it to undersell U.S. products domestically and in other markets.
Oh, yet our dear tRUMP made sure to tell businesses how they must pay their employers. I bet there's a few things this deal says how businesses must be run. Like who they get their parts from, how much of their parts must come from certain places. I guess you think this is a bad deal then.
I would prefer less restrictions, but if you had ever run a business you would not conflate the 2. A minimum wage hike would necessarily raise unemployment, which is why Democrats are so desperate to do it. Democrats hate MAGA because people without jobs, dignity, and hope are almost certain to vote for them. A strong independent family is much more likely to vote against Democrats. Once you understand those facts, much of the Democrat Party agenda starts to make sense.
What do you think a forced minimum wage will do to workers in Mexico? Will it have any affect of illegal migration?
The dairy portion of the deal is the the same one that the US would have gotten from Canada with TPP.
We've been a backwards, uncivilized, lawless, uneducated country for many, many decades. But we can recover.
You know that's a good question, if you can make $16bucks an hour over there why sneak over here unless your in a cartel selling children and drugs. What this does do is insure American companies are playing on a more level playing field in the auto industry. A company paying $25 per hour has a tough time competing with a company paying $3.00 an hour and shipping it over. Also the piece that 75% of auto sold in the US must come from US factories is also a good thing for American workers. More plants will open, more competition will come into play and prices will go down due to this alone. We all want better trade deals I believe and we also must know we're never going to get everything we want. The key to this deal will be enforcement of the minimum wage...
