There is a very tiny outside chance my messages are satire.

Not that long ago electricity was not something people knew existed then like your magic beans it sprung up from the soil of fertile minds and became a modern life necessity. Then there's the telephone and internal combustion motors and computers and a vaccine for polio etc etc etc. All magic beans to you I guess

It actually uses pumped hydroelectric power on the rare cloudy day or at night.

So when do you ship out?

If it was a Vanadium redox they could run anything they wanted

They use batteries ( i don't know what kind) bu they are used during the shift over to pumped hydroelectric power.

Just how many kids( houses, cars, mouths to feed, bodies to clothe and a myriad of other C02 producing activities) did you have as you worried about AGW warming the planet?

Not as magical as the climate change fairy that is causing all the instability in the climate world wide - causing glaciers to melt and the great barrier reef to die

Ahhh the personal approach. I love it. So when do you ship out to fight Isis?

So you want all the fossil fuel you currently use but no more than that? Status quo on fossil fuel use? I guess that's better than those calling for reduced use.

Everything is a straw man to you. I never can understand people that say we are destroying the planet with our C02 and then bring more C02 producers into the picture. Can you explain it?

    No argument from me

It is nonsensical that our power grids do not have storage capacity. Look at what happened in SA here - the whole state was blacked out because a one in fifty year storm took down transmission lines. (You should have seen the pictures - big steel towers twisted like spagghetti)

We KNOW that one CME from the sun would fry most of the power grid transformers so having battery back up is just plain logical

    - - - Updated - - -

I can't because that is not what they are saying - only you are saying that

That is why it is a straw man - false argument based on a false premise

no it hasn't. That is why Germany had to build more coal plants when they thought solar could take the place of nuclear and shut down their reactors. That is why the UK will be in crisis mode for electricity this winter after the power cable from Frances nuclear plants got cut. Just why do you want to raise electrical costs just so you can ship your pollution to China is the question.

What are the economics of this project ?? How much did the solar construction cost ?? What is the cost of the land ?? What are the battery costs ?? What is the cost of pumping the water through a turbine ?? Where does the energy to pump the water come from ?? How much savings per year is there when all amortized costs are considered ??

Controlling does mean reduced use- no reason why coal cannot be used as back up for renewables. And we end with a win/win situation - it was not that long ago that the denialists were screaming about how renewables would make electricity unaffordable now that renewables have started to bring down the price they are screaming about...... well anyone using electricity apparently

Coal was never the primary problem IF and only IF there was enough plant life to soak up the extra CO2 but there is not. Early plans were to offset CO2 production by leasing forests to prevent them being cut down and therefore offset the CO2

Again it was the right wing that screamed about this

All I ask is stop screaming and start doing yourself

Again there are the screams about it costing more - and yet it is so successful in many places that coal fired power stations are closing What it means is a new paradigm. And a rethink and rebuild of the aging electrical infrastructure. Do you realise that most electrical grids are now over a century old?

So first you say you don't want reduced fossil fuel use just a halt to the growth of fossil fuel use and now you say man's C02 output is not destroying the planet. You are headed in the right direction and I applaud your growth on this subject.

Who is screaming ?? I'm asking (as everyone should) about the economics. What is the cost/benefit ?? That's a very rational question and to not consider the economics is irrational. Coal is not closing due to the economic success of solar which can't economically stand and therefore is subsidized by gov's around the world. Coal fired electrical power plants are closing due to gov regulation. Nat gas is being chosen for new construction because of the costs of coal fired plant regulations even though Powder River coal is significantly less expensive.

Are they building new power grids for solar only power ?? Of course not - solar uses the same grid and makes management very difficult due to the variations in generation from day to day. The 24/7/365 sources of power have to be continuously modulated to match the wind and solar inputs.

The new paradigm is a lower standard of living.

Are you saying that it doesn't work great here in nevada?

So when do you ship out?

I have. Just checking to see whether the alarmists (it's your pet program) have done so and would like to share. Unsurprisingly .... nothing yet.

Solar industry in Nevada is collapsing after the state quit forcing energy companies to subsidize it with free use of their electric grid.
Nevada solar industry collapses after state lets power company raise fees

"Nevada’s governor, Brian Sandoval, and NV Energy defended the PUC decision, saying that the current rate structure put too large a burden for maintaining the grid on non-solar consumers. In an emailed statement, NV Energy wrote that the revised rate structure “fairly allocates the costs of providing electric service among all customers” and “results in no additional profit to NV Energy”.

Nuclear power puts out tremendous amounts of heat and fossil fuels are used for many aspects of nuclear power. Nuclear power is absurd - economically and environmentally. Nor is it a renewable energy source.
