Trump has repeatedly said an empty stockpile hampered his pandemic response. Budget cuts had affected it, but shelves weren't bare, former officials said.

Former federal officials argue that the Trump administration dropped the ball on stocking up at the first signs of a pandemic. (We've previously fact checked Trump's claim of a broken test — it's false.)

"It's not accurate to say the shelves were empty," said Dr. Nicole Lurie, who was assistant secretary of health and human services for preparedness and response under Obama.

NPR toured one of the Strategic National Stockpile's warehouses in June 2016, describing a massive warehouse with rows of supplies, including ventilators; it noted a locked section for addictive medicines and a freezer full of temperature-controlled supplies. According to the report, an official valued the stockpile at $7 billion.

    _____________________________________________

As if he didn't think voters were fools enough, Trump claimed that the reason he didn't make the necessary purchases to replenish Obama's supposedly empty stockpile was because he was too busy fighting the Democrats over Russia and Ukraine "hoax".

Between January 18 and March 3, Trump played golf 7 times and participated in 8 rallies....

If he had given any number of f***s about doing his job and staffing federal agencies, he could have easily delegated the task. But even now so many are on their third and fourth replacements for the head position with a ton of subbordinate roles unfilled. You can't trust a thing Trump says, but even if I did believe his claim about the national stock pile being depleted, the evidence is plain that he and the rest of the admin either didn't know before now or they didn't care.

    From your link:

“The Washington Post reported that 85 million N95 masks that were deployed from the stockpile during the swine flu crisis weren't replenished, for example.” https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/do...aims-obama-left-him-nothing-national-n1201406

    Swine flu crisis, 2009:

    https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/2009-h1n1-pandemic.html

The presidency of Barack Obama began at noon EST on January 20, 2009, when Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States, and ended on January 20, 2017.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidency_of_Barack_Obama

2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 Obama did nothing, nor did his Obamacare Congress, which has the enumerated power.

    Thanks for supporting Trump.

Well since this very "pandemic" is unprecedented in nature, exactly what would you propose the inventory of masks and now proven to not be needed ventilators should be? Give us a number that you would have stockpiled.

Following that, tell us the items that you took your own responsibility to inventory in your home knowing anything the government provides will always be too little too late.
Do you have a three months supply of food, TP, cash, batteries, water, tools and the skill to use them, or are you going to stay on the keyboard and demand someone from the government bring them to you?
    I did and do.

We can discuss obama's decimation of our military at a later time if you wish.

Except that this thread is about Trump complaining about depleted stocks. He had three years to restock, but didn't.

    Hindsight is great isn't it?
Tell us exactly what would have for an inventory and please tell us what you personally have on hand to protect yourself.
Call 911 and don't worry, the police and fire are only minutes away.

What does my experience have to do with this thread? If you are trying to make the case for 'stocking up' and personal responsibility, shouldn't Trump have considered the same for three years?

He even lied about Obama leaving him faulty tests . . . for a disease that didn't exist yet. Once again, there is nothing this conman won't lie about.

So Trump shouldn't have anticipated any need over the past 3 years . . . but Obama should have anticipated the need 3 years ago? Really?

Now compare that to what the Obama crew took out of the supply after they got in office and get back to us.... An easy MADE UP example. the stockpile had 30,000 ventilators, Obama sent out 20,000 and replaced 1,000. The shelf has some but nowhere close to what it had.

The numbers will bear the truth in this instance, not a reporter saying there was stuff on the shelf.

Of course, he should, as well as you. I am pleased he got to the military first because that is far more important to all of us. To even start to correct obama's errors with respect to the military is monumental.
Rest assured, in Trump's second term there will be hundreds of millions of masks stockpiled for that nasty "second wave" the DNC seems to so badly pray for, and we can always draw our ventilators form Cuomo's 40,000 untouched stockpiles.
Until then, take some personal responsibility and take care of your own personal needs.

No, I don't fault Obama as this is a very unusual situation. Everyone is aware of that and I do understand the party not in power will point fingers at the other guy. I am sure you are also pointing yours directly at the Chinese government.

I am a big promoter of taking care of yourself be it on an individual, corporate, and state level. A few years in the Army followed by working with government agencies made it clear to me that they are the last to be trusted to supply me with what is needed in a timely manner.

It's Trump's fault the Wuhan virus hit on his watch? Thank God it did because it would have been worse under Obama....see how silly this is when involving politics..

Not the pandemic, the catastrophic management of the pandemic.

In 10 days, US will have, per capita, the worst death toll in the world for cases and deaths.

    A great success.

Let's go back to the OP - which is what my comments were based upon. Trump is complaining and blaming Obama (again) about the cupboards being bare, thanks to Obama. So whether or not I am prepared (which I am, by the way, and thanks for the concern), has nothing to do with the OP.

The OP is just another poster intent on creating another anti-Trump thread so let's get to logic.
I would think that any card carrying leftie would totally ignore anything Trump says so what is the point? Hell, I am a card-carrying conservative and I believe 10% of what any politician says, and that includes Trump, so the best advice I can give is to let your brain decide. Protect yourself and your loved ones and never believe a politician.
Pointless OP's by Trump haters or Trump lovers does nothing to get us back on track unless of course, that is not the intent.

Obama and Trump really did a bad job restocking. Perhaps we should give the government even more responsibility. Hey, lets put them in charge of health care!!!

That might ring true if he said this when he first took office. But this is more than 3 years in.

So what he really should be saying is "Obama left me with nothing and I continued the same policy of having nothing until it bit me in the ass at which point I told everyone I was too busy and blamed the Democrats, just like I always do".

And his claims of being left with nothing are dubious to begin with.

Obama had the H1N1 pandemic in 2009. The country didn't panic. We didn't stand in line for toilet paper. It wasn't the Trump crap show that we have now. Elect a clown and you get a circus.

HHS asked for bids on N95 production. Presumably, the intent had to do with our stockpile, but it went one better than that.

In 2018, a significant company offered a bd to build a machine that would product 1.5 million n96 masks per day. That bid was within the congressionaly approved HHS spending on this project.

But, the new administration canceled the project.

Imagine if the federal government had the capacity (through a private corporation) to produce 1.5 million n95 masks per day!

That would be more masks per day than the total number of COVID cases America has had so far.

Of course, one would still have to figure out the number of hospital staff per day, but that would have been a gigantic help. And, if more such machines were needed, let's just guess that might be possible, too.
