That is really stretching the meaning of slave and it leaves out a very key requisite: choice.

Slaves have no choice, free persons do.

Free persons can choose not to work or attempt to find work.

But if they are able to work and make the choice not to then why exactly is it the responsibility of others to tend to their needs?

Here's a better use of the word slave.

If I work every day to have a portion of my earnings taken from me and given to another person who does nothing in exchange for it then I am partially a slave because that portion of my labor yields nothing in return.

Your so in denial. EVERYONE says that the new AHCA will not only cause 24 million people to LOOSE their healthcare coverage, they also say that the costs for those who get to keep it will grow.

THIS is why we will never fix anything in this country. People like yourself flat out lying about what this is.

IOW, you have nothing to support your assertion that Trump has a low opinion of the poor.
Do you think people who support government programs that encourage abject dependency have a high opinion of the dependent poor?

24 Million people will loose their healthcare coverage. It does NOTHING to control costs. Even the repubs agree with these assessments. And the real irony here is that the repubs hate Obamacare so much, and they have campaigned on repeal and replace, and they forgot to have something to replace it with. Most repubs even say this bill is DOA in the Senate.....

All due respect, but whats to link ? Their isn't an entity who has studied this proposal who says it is not going to do that. Well, except for those right wing "think tanks".

Have you ever heard the phrase "welfare plantation"? I think it contains more that a grain of truth.

How much choice do most of our functionally illiterate HS grads have in a job market constrained by a $15/hr minimum wage?

This bill is dead. It will not pass. The CBO is who said it could lead to 24 million, not "everyone" as you stated in another reply. You're running with that statement pretty hard for a bill that won't go anywhere.

The US needs a little loosening in their medical costs.

A bill that wont go anywhere is right. The problem is that you have Trump and his surrogates pushing it pretty hard. The guy who said "healthcare for everyone". Hold him accountable for not only "not holding a campaign promise", but in reality pushing for the exact opposite of "everyone".

So what do you tell the guy who worked in the coal mines for the last thirty years, has black lung disease, cant get out of his wheelchair, and the mine company wont pay his healthcare anymore ? "Sorry your not as lucky as me, so were going to take away your food"

They can go dig a ditch for all I care.

The solution to a society with countless thousands of unemployable persons is not to make sure that productive people foot the bill.

    That is an exponential impossibility.

There are already more people in the cart than pulling it.

At at certain point the math just fails and we all become lower class.

This is a larger issue than just welfare and unemployment.

We've created a culture of irresponsibility where slackers and the failures of humanity are overbreeding.

If we're not going to demand work-for-welfare then we sure as **** need to demand sterilization-for-welfare because this path leads to collapse.

So the medical community is inept ?

And you seem to not realize that that coal miner will be dead because he doesn't get to eat. He doesn't care about medicine when he's starving. But dont worry, those at the top will have to pay less taxes so that they can trickle it down to you....

    Socialized medicine is inept.

Again, learn the wisdom lesson and take care of yourself so you won't die sick and broke.

And how do you stop yourself from getting cancer when you work 60- 80 hour weeks in a manufacturing plant full of chemicals ?

How do you stop yourself from getting black lung while working 60 hour weeks in the mines ?

How do you stop yourself from getting cancer when you live down wind from the plant that no longer has to take those chemicals out of their smokestacks when the EPA is gone ?

How do you stop yourself from going broke when you have paid your insurance premiums faithfully your whole life, you have a serious health problem, and your insurance company drops you because your going to cost to much money ? Or when you meet you "maximum benefit" ?

How do you not go broke when some company who is well connected buys your local government and decides they want your land for themselves, and buys an "imminent domain" judgement against you and gets your land for pennies on the dollar ?

You make the grand assumption that everything that happens is a choice. Or that we have options. Poor people have much fewer "options". Now thats not to say that everyone is a victim, may people do make bad choices and cause their own problems. But how do you separate the two ? Who decides what was a choice vs what was forced on someone ?

A lot of words to insist on being foolish and relying on the government to take care of you. Again, I can only say it is not wise.

What we have right now is the ability, if not the desire, to take care of ourselves.

If you don't help people in need then you will have to be willing to kill them when they revolt and take your stuff.

I didn't know meals on wheels encouraged abject dependency.
Most people who support programs like MOW understand that some people do need help.
