Geez, the Big Dope, speaking off the cuff, said he didn't have to build the wall right away and that he just wants to speed things up.

Sure it was mostly farmed based, for as you know, we were not allowed to manufacture particular goods, and had to depend upon england for it.

And of course, popular myth has it that after being told of his win, washington first went and commissioned a new suit to be made by an american tailor, and he got up with Hamilton(I think) who got to work on creating a trade policy for the new nation. Which used tariffs to make up the difference between the price of cheaper foreign labor and american labor, so we could be independent and grow our own industry, and for most of our existence, most goods were made for americans in america. This was the nation that won ww2, and went to the moon.

He didn't make a good impression when he said he is only trying to speed up building the wall and that he didn't have to declare the emergency.

 

He's also pissing off swing voters and that's a good way to lose the next election. Losing the House badly should be a wake-up call. Most Americans are getting tired of the turmoil.

 

Sorry, but people aren't gonna stop buying from walmart,or buying apple, nike, and GM products. So, the likelyhood of people not buying chinese goods isn't very high, since our biggest companies all produce their good there.

The only way to fix the trade imbalance is to reform free trade to ban sweatshop goods. It's US companies that are the cause.

As for Trump being a NY con man, YUP. You forgot to add mostly a conservative NY con man and so far in spite of the media and petulant little children that can't deal with the fact they got their ass kicked by a conservative NY con man, Trump has done a remarkable job on two fronts,
1. A continued drive to keep his campaign promises which is something that had not been done in DC for many terms.
2. Driving the alt-lefties into a frenzy the likes of which the American people have not been exposed to in my lifetime which really points out how far off the rails they really are.

So, we are hurting China more than ourselves. There is a cost to fighting wars, either military or economic. For 20 years China has benefited at our expense in trade. They refused to negotiate in good faith while stealing intellectual property. Go ahead an hate Trump, but understand that China is going to create a sphere of influence in Asia that will leave America locked out if they continue to be allowed to pursue such a mercantile economic policy.

When you increase the overhead on a production cycle, you effectually cut the gain and transfer part of the residual benefit to another entity. That benefit is not going back to China as it has in the past.

Trump simply stated that China isn't currently able to undercut our own overhead for similar products. I.E. our own steel production is actually viable in comparison.

American workers have been hurt by our own bureaucratic regulations which are not all that different from tariffs because they also raise the overhead on production.

You chastise Trump but turn your head with indifference towards some of the causes and reasons why Trump was elected in the first place.
