There is no requirement in the Constitution, or anywhere else, for a candidate to show their tax returns. It has only been CUSTOMARY to reveal one's returns with the last 50 years (as I recall).

No candidate has to show his tax returns now, or in the future.

At one time, Joe Biden was the poorest man in the US Senate. Now he is worth millions. He can show how he made his millions, or not.

Some may want to make it a major issue in a campaign; but It is a minor issue for voters.

Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and remained under institutional psychiatric care until September 2016.

 

I didn't say he got off scott free. They found him not guilty by reason of insanity even though he traveled a long distance alone to get to DC; found out where Reagan was that day; figured out which exit he would come out of and had the wherewithall to blend in with the crowd before shooting. He also knew it was wrong.

A sympathetic jury gave him the chance to go home someday. That is more than what Hinkley planned for Reagan.

Sirhan Sirhan did not get the same sympathy for killing Bobbie.
