Microsoft is going to offer a new Internet Explorer. Help them to make a real good browser and try the Release Candidate of the IE9. Download the 19 MB file, which does not load files from the internet during the setup, from here. Choose language and OS (no available for Windows XP), before you click "Download":

This is the view of the IE9:

    Features:
    Download Manager:
Its similar to Firefox. Furthermore you can commit a download-dir but you also can choose "save as" to download to a drifferent folder once.
Tabs: Pull tabs into a new or existing windows with drag&drop.
GPU: More speed for animations by using the Graphicsaccelerator.
Searchbar: Its integratet in the Adressbar now.
    And many more...

Meh...I am holding judgement. I am pretty comfortable using chrome. IE has a bad reputation for bloating. They are going to have to work a lot harder getting me to come back.

I have all three major browsers installed on all my computers. But I still use Chrome as my primary. The other ones are just too cumbersome. And Chrome meshes well with my Android phone.

I wouldn't put IE on my machine even if it delivered a fresh hot pizza out of my printer at noon.

It's getting to the point where I just don't care about speed improvements anymore. Faster than "perceptually instant" is pretty much meaningless to me.

Except that none of the browsers is perceptually instant. IE certainly is not. Chrome is the fastest I have seen so far, but it is not instant.

I have little use or need of anything that is faster than by brain.

Yeah, but right now none of them is faster than your brain. If you are waiting for the browser to catch up to you, then it isnt fast enough.

Looks like I won't get the chance to try it. I dual-boot Ubuntu (10.10) and XP. I have Chrome (default), Opera and Firefox on Ubuntu and IE (as the default), Opera and Firefox on XP. I only use IE for Microsoft updates and what have you, if I'm using XP I prefer Opera or Chrome. I use XP only for business (running Office 10) and the bulk of my computing is on Ubuntu because it's simply better than using XP.

So many choices, why bother with IE?

The links and graphs are updated, click the first link to download an offline IE9 installer for your OS and in your language.

    Same.

Chrome leaves everything else in the dust; streamlined efficiency at its best is the Chrome way.

No, it doesn´t, because the IE9 works with DirectX 10, resp. 11.

    A good idea.
But I have automatic Updates off. I get my Updates from a webpage. They make an installer with the new Updates every month.
So, I just need the newest exe file ot get all the important Updates when reinstalling Windows.

The new Firefox is actually quite good. They fixed a lot of things that used to annoy me about it.

Not enough to make me switch back from Chrome, but they are definitely headed in the right direction.

I still hate IE. It is awkward to use and slow as hell.
