So - if I were to say that I don't agree with juveniles charged with sexual assault of minors being kept in adult prisons (which I don't) - then this would mean to you that I was a supporter of child molestation!?!

I can only comment on what is in the news article but I can say that up to 19 means that there are at least 19 Indonesian alleged and convicted people smugglers in our prison system who are maintaining they are under the age of 18. As the article shows at least one has been released because it was shown that he was 14 years of age when he was detained. The wrist xray technique used to "prove" he was an adult have obviously been shown to be inaccurate, at least in his case which casts doubt on the whole process. If we dont put our own kids in adult prisons at the age of 14 then why should we be doing it to foreign nationals? The rest of your post makes no sense to the topic, we are not discussing how maturity varies between given individuals neither do we care about your own alleged early self sufficiency although if as you suggest you were an early developer it might have been wise to continue the process as an adult.

 

Please excuse my unwanted injection of reality into the topic. Apologies in advance for more of the same. The distant liklihood that any under age crew members would be soft little children, really pales into insignificance in the face of the reality that this dangerous trade requires stern measures set against it.

I doubt many people support the incarceration of minors in adult detention systems, but in this case, taking this topic in isolation from the entire issue is akin to discussing the asthetic aspects of the Berlin Wall during the 1960`s. For example, if the ALP were to design a car &, subsequent to their budget being wasted on comittees, Anthony Albanese was nominated to design the wheels. Now, Anthony being the smart, independant fella that he is, has made his wheels the total focas of his thinking, Tony`s ego dictates that he work independantly, and in isolation from the overall project, as do his other "team members" . Anthony knows that square wheels are better for preventing the car from rolling down hills, he knows that square wheels are completely safe, because he has studdied the statistics & made the astounding revelation that ther have been NO fatalities involving square wheeled cars for weeks and weeks!

I don`t even want to discuss what Bob Brown wants to do with the exhaust pipe, and poor little Wayne wants a periscope to help him see over the dashboard, and Penny Wong is having no end of trouble with her dry gearbox, but according to the ABC reports, this will be the best car ever produced.

Well actually no, it is not a distant likelyhood. It turns out that 30 underage Indonesions have been released after being incarcerated for up to 2 years in adult prisons.

Bizarre off track ranting most of this here but I will again ask the question you seem to be trying to avoid. If we dont incarcerate our own children in adult prisons regardless of their crime then why is it ok to do it to foreign nationals?

 

Well the government has stated that in some cases it is impossible to tell whether they are 17 or 19 it is ridiculous. And if Indonesia wants to complain they don't seem to care when one of our minors is placed into detention, just look at the difference in crimes.
