Uruguay Doing Quite Well

    For many years Uruguay was not really prosperous. The people were not poor but most of the population lived with modest means.

    Uruguay also has the highest proportion of European ancestry in its population out of all the South American countries. That basically means there are not a huge number of impoverished people in this country. So although the average people were not particularly prosperous, there were not all those poor people to pull down the average.
