I doubt a "real job" would pay any more. I mean, right wingers love to crow about how good welfare recipients have it so, being as they're already "rolling in the dough", why would they seek to change it? Right? Living the "life of Riley" and all, who would be in a hurry to end it?

Awww...that's not nice. We just want to be like our corporate heroes. We want subsidies, handout, tax holidays, oil welfare like subsidies and stuff like that too! Why work for it when you don't have to? Right?

Well with Walmarts popping up all over the place, I guess our younger generation knows what lies in their future. Gotta go with what jobs are in demand!

I don't get social security my family is helping me out, for now until Medicaid is expanded in my state hopefully. Until then I can't risk making to much as a pauper I qualify for charity care if hospital care is needed and the free clinic is keeping me going for now. My taxable income last year was just over $2500 which I paid self-employment tax on and will declare for income tax. I can make noticeably more if I wanted to.

Well props to you then, since you could probably get 2500$ a month from SS considering your disability.

Knew someone who got 1500$ a month just for being legally blind, but could still basically see.

What do you mean " If "? Liberals figured out how to scam welfare benefits since the beginning of welfare benefits, and are constantly mastering their technique.

I can work and am disabled and this young man is fit and cannot work, and blames the government for rules on its programming the same rules all shelters have for the homeless. Seems odd, I had no choice but to work for myself and I struggled all my life my income normally is near or under the poverty line. Sadly the norm for the disabled but I'm not complaining at least I'm free from having people telling me what to do or how to live

I can come up with lots of ways for that young man to make money on his own:
    Bathroom Attendant
Pick Up Dog Doo for Tips (do yards weekly six days a week for $5 a week, get forty yards that is $800 a month)
    Busking
    Odd Jobs
    Collect Cans
Find Things in Dumpsters to Fix Up and Re-sell
    Hand Out Fliers for Businesses
    Sign Spinner
Get a Cooler and Sell Bottles of Ice Cold Water (when its warm out)
Get Ordained by the Universal Life Church and Street Minister (collecting donations)
    Walk Dogs
    Underground Merchant
    etc.

The words War On Poverty are mine. But it was that, that started our big welfare state.

I understand that there are very few jobs available and those that are don't pay a living wage. My problem here is that he's so indignant at being told he must try to find a job and contribute to his own support rather than being taken in by a charity organization and given food, shelter and medical care at somebody else's expense. As I said earlier, he apparently applied to every charity organization he could find but no employment agencies and made no effort to apply at individual businesses. His opinion that he is being "forced into labor" to provide for himself instead of finding a job and some self-respect is telling IMO.

Charity or government program equals charity or company rules for these programs, no one is making anyone work if you don't want to work leave the program.

Okay then...so what are you griping about then?? They're simply doing like their more successful fellow citizens. If the rich can take handouts, certainly the poor should be able to. It's just like the illegal thing. Whine about illegals and demand something be done but turn a blind eye to lawbreaking employers that hire them. If you won't jail employers then, no point in whining about the illegals either. People see only what they want to see.
