Unless this is one strong and tough girl, having a female on a men's football team is a real bad idea. She does not have the strength to compete against the best and strongest men playing the game, and as a kicker she is the last line of defense on a kick off. Can you imagine how bad she would get messed up if a guy is running full speed and she steps in front of him trying to make a tackle? And what locker room does she use?

Anyway, she kicked a weak ground ball to second and nothing happened. I don't know the full story regarding how she got to be the kicker and I'm not sure I want to know or would care if I did.

Does this mean men can be on the women's wrestling team? Oh hell, let's just cut to the PC chase and make ALL non-professional, grade school through college sports co-ed, see how it pans out once and for all.

Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason said Fuller executed the so-called squib kick exactly as it was designed.

A squib kick at the start of the 3rd quarter? Why do they need a girl to kick a squib?

Because COVID-19 issues had left the team with few options for kicking specialists

You mean there was not one guy on the roster who could kick a ground ball?

    A) it wasn’t a ground ball
    B) apparently there wasn’t anyone else on the team who could do a squib kick.

    Sexist?

Sexist can be seen in the post directly above yours where an assumption is made that no man on the team could kick a ball and only a woman could.

If this was merely a stunt, would that upset you that a woman was exploited and put at risk of serious injury just for publicity?

The post above mine made no statement that you claim. More false posting.

I know the story. And the female kicker was not forced by anyone to be the kicker.

Yup...still didn’t say what you accuse me of. You really are desperate. Sorry you’re intimidated by women.

So what does everyone think the next thing a woman might now do?
    Become VP of USA?
    The barriers, just keep falling.

The actual kicker and his back up went down with covid 19 so the coach turned to the women’s soccer team for a kicker. I have no problem with it at all and support it. What I oppose is guys pretending like they are women competing against women in women’s sports. She’s not pretending to be a man.

She will not be successful playing on a team full of large men. We can pretend, for the purpose of being PC, but ya know, that thing called biology.

The OP is not sure if he/she cares why the kicker was a girl, yet cared enough to create a thread about it.

    LOL, ok.

What I'm questioning is your comment about the team "apparently' not having anyone who can kick a squib. These are college athletes who most likely got scholarships based on their athletic ability, and none of them can kick a ball 25 yards? Not only that, if you extend that logic, no one on the men's soccer team was capable of doing it either. In fact, no one in the entire school was capable of kicking a squib. And here's the amazing part, the team sized her up before the game, gave her a uniform and put her on the roster because they knew at the start of the third quarter they were going to squib kick. To me this sounds exactly what @ButterBalls called it, a publicity stunt.

I now think it's just a stunt. There are too many capable men on the team, in other sports and throughout the entire college who can kick a ball.

Vanderbilt doesn’t have a men’s soccer team. And you notice I said “apparently”. Maybe there wasn’t anyone else on the team who could kick with precision. The kick wasn’t about how far, It also required specific placement. The real question is why does this bother you so much?

Bothers? I don't think a stunt like this, and that's now what I believe it is, helps the game, it cheapens it. Each team is supposed to put their best athletes on the field and I can assure you this woman is not the best football player available to Vanderbilt. And how did Vanderbilt know they would need a precision squib kick to start the 3rd quarter? Like I said, it's a stunt.
