I'm fascinated by the TV commercials for "Balance of Nature" which is pills filled with dried veggies and fruits. The commercial explains that veggies and fruits are 85% water and the water has been removed from the stuff in these pills. They recommend 3 pills per day. One endorser says she wouldn't be able to eat enough fruits and veggies to to get the same nutrition she gets from the product.

Here is why I am fascinated. If I take 1/15th of an apple or a tomato or an avocado I get something about the size of three of these pills. The woman who wouldn't be able to eat enough fresh veggies or fruits to match the nutrition of three pills could easily eat enough produce in one day to match the pills. It is only one apple or tomato or avocado or serving of asparagus or whatever. That is true of anyone, even a child.

So I looked up the price. $90 for a month's supply, You can buy a lot of fresh produce for $90 and enjoy its taste and texture. So I'm puzzled as to why anyone would want this product. My only assumption is that it might be people who hate fruits and vegetables. Any defenders out there?

I bought veggie powder once to add to smoothies. It was awful.

As you mentioned, some people just don't like fruits and vegetables. I know people that have gone their whole lives NEVER have even tried them. I don't get it. I grew up on them and still eat them every day. Tastes much better than all that processed nonsense they call food.

Also, people in the US (I don't know about other places) tend to want a "quick fix". We want to pop a pill and be done with it. Shopping, cleaning and cutting fruits and vegetables is too laborious for some. A pill solves that problem.

With all that said, you have to take those commercials with a grain of salt. If you really want natural remedies go to a Whole Foods or an apothecary and talk to the managers for the best advice on which products really sell well and work.

I love fresh produce. Almost every meal I make includes produce. I also enjoy drinking orange juice in the morning and tomato juice in the afternoon. Tonight I'm boiling up some artichokes to serve with hollandaise sauce and my excellent beer batter fish and chips. Chips, of course are french fries, an outstanding root vegetable.
