CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuela’s opposition is putting up its most determined challenge to President Nicolás Maduro in years, with near-daily protests that are backed by widening international condemnation of the government’s authoritarian rule.

Calling for early elections, the release of political prisoners and a return to democratic norms, thousands of Maduro’s opponents have repeatedly attempted to march toward downtown government buildings in Caracas in the past two weeks, only to be repelled by police truncheons and clouds of tear gas.

Anti-government demonstrations have swept across Venezuela in recent days as anger over the country's economic and political crisis has fuelled a wave of protests. Shortages of food and other basic supplies, and an inflation rate thought to have topped 1000%, have left more than eighty per cent of Venezuelans living in poverty. Opposition leaders have accused President Nicolas Maduro of mounting a coup against democracy after he tried, and failed to abolish the powers of the opposition-controlled National Assembly. The socialist President claims the United States and other western powers are colluding with domestic enemies of the socialist revolution. Though foreign journalists are routinely banned from the oil-rich country, Stephen Sackur presents a special edition of HARDtalk on the Road in Venezuela.

What's changed? Well, I'm convinced now and my verdict is - regime change.

The so-called "President" of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro* has got to go.

*I call him "EVIL SANTA", instead of bringing the people luxurious gifts, this evil "St Nicolas" (Santa Claus) takes away people's essentials.

Somebody, President Trump perhaps, should give EVIL SANTA his 48 hours to quit the presidency of Venezuela.

After that, the gloves should come off. Then the US and allies should offer military help to any force in Venezuela who can take EVIL SANTA out, by all means necessary.

Another terrible authoritarian leftists dictator..

Should Trump do something about it? IDK.. Depends on what the people want..

Even if Trump does something about it just handing the government back to them would likely just end up with the same result soon..
So what? Take over their country and keep it? Don't know if that would go over too well..

Might just leave it alone and let it stand as a great example of what runaway leftism will get ya..
