They would if they did not affect them far greater than the rich. The stupid part is you say below that the rich pay little to no tax, thus the poor are paying for those things.
So you are happy to hurt the poor MORE because the rich use more??? As to your story, it is actually true, but to get that money from the rich you are also reducing the ability for the poor to live.

Taxes are necessary, there is no doubt. BUT the fact that taxes actually affect the poor far greater than the rich is something nobody can deny. We often hear about how taking 40% of the rich is paying heavy burden on the rich. BUT think about it, if you take 40% off $1MILLION pay they are still left with $600,000. Well I am sure they will struggle to buy the newest BMW for that second car. BUT take 20% of the low income earners, and they start looking to what food they can live without or what meal they can miss (making the health of the poor worse so they can pay more at the GP). The fact you say they don't pay tax so you have to hit them with GST, CARBON TAX AND OTHER GENERAL TAXES you ignore that poor still pay their taxes and also those others as well.

Compensated??? HOW, the ALP withdrew low income tax rebates, when they introduced the CARBON TAX. Oh, that is right many think the poor are the people living on welfare and not those who work. Apparently the ALP think if you have a job you’re a millionaire... Really these politicians are lost with the reality of what is happening in the nation and many just follow.
