Milspec just means that the sizes and materials used in the manufacture of something is equal the the military specifications requested by the government. A roll of toilet paper can be considered "milspec" if it meets all the bid requirements.

The word itself probably pushes sales because it offers guaranteed parts strength and interchangeability.

Look at it this way, they may offer the ability to save the life of your child or grandchild instead of waiting five or ten minutes for the police to arrive.
