This sounds awfully reminiscent of Female Genital Mutilation. When you read it being described you'll think it's horrendous. And it's going on in the United States and England, not uncommonly without the woman's consent. But this surgical procedure should only be used in very extreme situations. The cut usually never heals up back exactly the way it was before, and often can negatively impact the woman's future sexual function, with all that cutting and severing of nerves. And once a woman's been cut it pretty much means she's going to have to be recut in the same place for every subsequent childbirth, because the flesh in that spot is weaker and would just tear open. Of course, wouldn't you know it, doctors are overusing this procedure, some of them thinking it's a good idea whenever there's the slightest problem with the woman giving birth. And with the woman in extreme pain there on the table in the middle of birth, there are doctors who do not believe the woman is in a sound frame of mind to make decisions and will perform the procedure on her without her consent. If you saw the pictures and what this procedure actually entails, and all the negative effects and medical complications it can have on the woman later, you would see that this isn't just some small little procedure.
