I know, but you also attempted to draw a distinction between paper money and food stamps.

They are the exact same thing: a convertible vehicle which enables acquisition of other goods.

What determines if they are economically helpful is efficiency and value - and neither the welfare system itself, or the welfare recipient - are examples of that.

Welfare of no kind is economically helpful, and badmutha's analogy is a good one:

If I am forced to provide you $100 out of my pocket for you to then buy $100 worth of food from my store...

...how have you economically helped anyone? You're killing the system in so doing - and killing it at a speed that is directly commensurate with the amount of it you're supporting.

So if they were pressed into some sort of civil service things would be more acceptable? By the way I am all for that.

It is not stealing though it is the cost of doing business and the cost of citizenship.

I would prefer no tax and have the government leave me alone. I can raise cows and chickens and pigs and dig a pone. I can have a lagre garden as well. I can support myself until the government wants to take my home for not paying the government rent (TAX).

What I have said through this thread is welfare in and of itself is not a bad thing.

Some people just aren't financially valuable, that doesn't mean that they aren't valuable. And the money is still helpful society if it's spent in the society.

How 'bout this for a restriction on welfare money -- it can only be spent on American products?

If they're not financially valuable, then they are not valuable: value is something that can be quantified. I happen to believe that anyone is financially valuable.

No - and I've already explained why. If that were the case, there would be value in forcing me to give someone $100 to spend $100 in my store.

Meaningless. What would provide more societal benefit is requiring work for the money.

Hell yeah. That is what I am talking about. Welfare monies will br the only support American manufacturing gets though. I mean really people have brought this upon themselves. The shopping habits of the upper lower class up have cost jobs and created some of the welfare roles.

The upper echelons helped it along by giving people the cheap goods they wanted. It is all tightly related but most of the blind lemmings on both sides refuse to see the big picture and only focus on what does not put them in the pile of American traitors and trash.

Here's a thought, if we didn't have free trade and we brought back some tariffs, there would be less cheaper imports. Welfare recipients (like the rest of us) would have to pay similar prices for both American and imported items.

If the welfare recipient choose the similarly priced American product, that would be good for our economy. If the welfare recipient choose the imported product, with the tariff in place, that would bring more revenue to our government, which could use the money to give out more welfare payments, sparing the tax payer. In essence allowing China to pay for our welfare system. I'm brilliant.

I think what you technically mean is that anyone is exploitable. That's not quite the same thing. They have value as human beings that is greater than any possible financial value.

It's more like you spending twenty cents so someone else has a hundred dollars to spend in your store. It makes perfect sense.

I think we do society a lot of harm by requiring work for the money. We require moms to work for the money, for example ... I think society would be better off with moms watching kids.

We do not require that. The breakdown of the family structure causes that and the selfish greed by a couple (married or not) that makes both work.

I would like to see a GOP Candidate actually go to an Unemployment Office of a major metropolitan city … and truthfully report on what they actually see in that office.

Well they say a lot of things and quote a lot statistics, just like a lot of other people, but what I’d like to know is would they believe their own eyes or would they still feed the hungry lies even it they actually seen different facts.

North Korean Trade policies?? Does North Korea even have a trade policy?? I thought they were Isolationists.

I'm talking about American pre-1980 trade policies. You know those bad ol' days went Americans had a living wage and the United States was the most powerful nation in the world, both economically and militarily.

Of course, back then (in let's say the 1950s) we only had Liberal "Freedom" which meant there was no freedom at all, only tyranny. I'll never forget the brutal dictatorial regime of General Dwight D. Eisenhower when we were all forced to buy American products.

This fun re-writing history. Why should the **********s have all the fun.

Where is my freedom to choose American products? I am willing to pay more as are many Americans but the (R), (D) and power lords of this nation took that away from me.

    My own. I am a writer/reviewer/product tester.

The last one I purchased was a GateWay notebook.

I bought Zenith televisions until they moved out then Olevia because they had American interests now it is Vizio and Coby. I don't like it but give me some suggestions?

Hell I bought some freaking plywood the other day and noticed (when I started cutting) that it was made in China.

I am happy to support my brother but sadly he is only willing to support China:(

Where did the private sector get the money? The Fed reserve. Money gets created from something. It doesn't just appear. The private sector didn't create the money they just used it.

Unless we've outsourced dairy cows, poor people pay the same amount for a gallon of milk as rich people do. I don't think we've outsourced milk production yet. Or have we?

The breakdown of the family structure is caused by the rising cost of living and the necessity for both parents to work in order to pay for health care, rent and food that won't give your kids cancer.

Welfare is one of the things that liberal states are way ahead of conservative states for taking responsibility of and preventing fraud to those systems.

Did you know that in New York welfare only lasts 5 years, then you're kicked off? When you see that you know it is a temporary program between jobs.

I'm sure all those "hidden camera" welfare busting TV shows all take place in the central red state region of the US where most people are in permanent poverty and will do anything to cheat the system.

But then you have individual welfare and state welfare. All those central red states take back more in Federal aid than they give up taxes, while the big blue states, and Texas, have to pay out more than they get back to adjust for the poverty that the conservatives bring while talking about cutting welfare.
