Once again we see top dems showing their desire for control and power.

What about non essential businesses with perishable goods that require power?

The power outages in California last year destroyed many small businesses, what will be the impact here?

I can actually see top dems using this tactic to force people to relocate-for example to a quarantine.

OH, now this is interesting. So, even though you pay your utility bills on time, the government claims the right to be able to CUT YOUR WATER AND ELECTRICAL POWER OFF because it just wants to, for reasons entirely of its own...?!

With this kind of thing starting to happen, we're about to enter a horrible new phase of this big pandemic 'crisis' now, and by the time the next power-grab is complete, we'll be under Martial Law, you will not be able to enter a bank or government office building, and you'll be arrested and fined if you are caught milling around in public without explicit government permission. It's all becoming much clearer now.

The death toll from this virus in the U. S. today, March 25, 2020, is 802, out of a U. S. population of approximately 330,000,000.

Hint: An average of 101 people die in traffic crashes every single day in the United States. Link: https://www.asirt.org/safe-travel/road-safety-facts/ . Does anybody else see what is actually being done here...?

Yup. Fear of the unknown vs. fear of the known. Human nature. It's like waking down a path and seeing a snake move in the bushes - human nature is to recoil in fear until it can be seen how deadly the snake might be.

We have gotten used to people dying in auto accidents - it's a known fear.
We have yet to determine if Covid-19 is seasonal, how many people will become infected and how many will die, how medical treatment will deal with it. It's not a "power grab" - it's a eon old self-preservation response. As people become more used
to the presence of Covid-19, and get some idea of the course it will run, we will see less unreasoned fear.

    Just human nature.

They can comply, and do the right thing and still get service. That means operating for instance, with takeout, if a restaurant.

Much of this FEAR is due to the PURPOSEFUL refusal to make testing widespread. This PURPOSE, is manifold. To make folks not utilize the FREE healthcare for the virus etc. To keep the numbers manageable for REELECTION purposes. So on and so on.

Classic liberal authoritarianism. Garcetti acts like a 4 yo. except this 4 yo seems to have the ability, like his sheriff to actually implement his tyranny on the good folks of LA... But pot stores will stay open. No power or water shut offs to them. But woe to any he deems "non essential"... What a turd.

Could have had testing, and then we would KNOW which strictures were needed, and which weren't. Your choice, or rather your candidate/potuses.

Why quote my post if your response has nothing to do with it's contents. You can just post without any preceding posts if you just want to make a general comment.

The peasants must not be denied access to their amusements and intoxicants -- yet! The big government 'clamp-down' will come when they're ready to exercise total control over everything in our lives... and that day is now MUCH closer than I had ever imagined.

When you think about it, it's really a masterful plan! Use something like an infectious disease as the primarily leverage to launch a power-grab of all-encompassing proportions. And a docile, ill-informed, hopelessly dependent population will go gladly and gratefully along -- and then they'll be rewarded by their new 'overlords' with even more 'amusements and intoxicants'....

CA is trying hard to provide an example of government at its worst.

The CDC predicts 600k-2.2M dead by the end of this outbreak. This isn't the ****ing flu and anyone ignoring quarantine orders need to be stopped.

Mmm... I'm not too worried about the "Commies" or a "Lord of the Flies" scenario. But, the reality of a "CENTRAL BANK ÜBER ALLES!" tenses my butthole so tight that you couldn't pull a straight pin out of it....

Welcome to Political Forum! You've picked a good time to arrive... very likely the end of the United States of America as we once knew it. Don't feel too bad, though -- it's been in a very real state of decline for decades in so many ways....

Politics. Just like the Russia collusion hoax and sham impeachment. H1N1 infected 60.8M and killed 12,500 Americans in 2009 - 2010. It came back as part of the seasonal flu to kill 19,000 more Americans in 2018 - early 2019. Coronavirus is no more lethal. It has killed 1.2% of those who (1) Showed symptoms, and (2) Got tested.

It has spread down the Eastern Seaboard because, after infecting each other at home, New Yorkers decided to drive to FL, infecting everyone along the way.

Since China didn't admit what was happening, Chinese kids who go to school here flew back to infect Americans before Trump imposed a ban. Those who didn't make it in time flew to Vancouver and Trudeau allowed them to drive south into Washington State. Then we had the disease party in Connecticut that sprinkled 50 infected people around Connecticut, NY, South Africa. We're still not at levels comparable to those that didn't raise an eyebrow a decade ago. The panic driven by the media is all about the 2020 election.

Good point, but human nature doesn't require government abuse of power. Threatening to disconnect essential needs is absolutely a power grab. I strongly oppose this move. If you support it, I respect your opinion, just don't complain when someone wants to declare a national emergency to build a wall.

Conservatives have been complaining for years that States should have more independence. Part of that means that governors have more authority. I would rather that power remains diffuse, but as the saying goes, "Power hates a vacuum".

I agree. the states should have the power they need to combat this as they deem. This should be handled differently in different states.

CA is nutty as hell IMO, but let them reap what they sowed with their political choices.

We are discussing use/abuse of power. Regardless of whos authority, are we to just accept abuse under the guise of "they know whats best for us"? This is the same mayor that told us to go out and enjoy our beaches and parks. To prevent the spread of the virus, we are to go to Costo and wait in a crowded line and fight for toilet paper.
