Modes of transportation often are revolutionary in advancement. To move faster to locations you wish to be allows for better communication and expansion. So what do you think could be our next mode of transportation? Could this mode of transportation be the thing to lead us into long range space travel? Are there any developments or ideas in this field recently?
I think for our immediate future, the only real innovations in travel are going to be in space. Cars, trains, planes, and boats aren't really set for any major breakthroughs that I'm aware of, but space tourism and private sector investment is skyrocketing.
For average Joe: electric self-driving cars For space: Reusable rockets (SpaceX Falcon) are already well under development. However I think even bigger impact will come from reusable spaceplane called Skylon, with a new type of supersonic jet / rocket engine hybrid. Suddenly spacetravel with airplane-like operation and cost doesnt seem so farfetched. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skylon_(spacecraft)
Transportation of information seems to be our new revolution. We now move data instantly across the globe...it is likely this data will become virtual soon enough, allowing us to "Be" anywhere.
yup...all the speculation of space travel isn't happening ever, this is home/planet/solar system and we're never leaving it so we best take care of it better than we have...I look forward to electric cars that drive themselves...
I'm old enough to recall when we needed a telephone operator to complete a local phone call and trans-Atlantic phone calls was a really big deal...now it's something we take for granted...phones that act as cameras, calculators, computers and a zillion other uses, well that was absolutely beyond comprehension when I was kid sci-fi fantasy...
