This is a non-partisan issue if ever there was one. And yes, I absolutely believe "we" can do this. We all get scam phone calls that project a fake caller ID to our phone. I know because I usually dial them back even when they sound oh so legitimate, like the back brace scam. All we need do is to DEMAND that our legislators in Congress pass a law that says it's time to revert back to "the good old days" of not long ago when the caller ID could only be the actual phone number of the caller, or a blocked number. They don't want their actual phone number to be known because authorities could find them easily and prosecute them. So this proposed law would bring scam calls to a screeching halt. The problem is one of communicating this to representatives. It seems the only ways to do it are to either show up at their offices in a large group, or to advocate the idea at town halls. Scam calls bilk the public out of something like $6 billion per year!
Try a land line phone with an unlisted number. My phone is absolutely quiet for the vast majority of the time.
you can thank your messiah for all that crap: https://www.nclc.org/media-center/congress-set-to-allow-robocalls-to-cellphones.html not an issue for me, i never answer the phone & i use a 'whitelist' which only allows incoming calls from the numbers on the list (& none of those include any neighbors) EDIT: oh, & my 'area code' is not from where i live... cells are kool like that, allowing you to choose any area code you'd like...
(WASHINGTON) Hidden in the federal budget bill before Congress is a provision that would open the door to unwanted robocalls to cell phones for student loan borrowers, mortgage borrowers, taxpayers, and others with debt backed by the federal government. Section 301 removes the current requirement for a caller to have the consent of the called party before making autodialed or prerecorded calls or texts for the collection of debts owed or guaranteed by the federal government. It also removes the ability of the called party to stop these unwanted robocalls to their cellphones. How does this help scammers?
fyi, all of their 'affiliates' are also allowed to call, which in turn allows the affiliates of the affiliates to also call, so on & so on... meaning nearly any entity is legally allowed to call... thanks to mr. oscumma
All this thing did was allow debt collectors to call cell phones the same way they had been calling land lines.
While I agree with you in principle, I know that it's virtually impossible. Technically speaking, you can't stop somebody from shamming a phone number. If we could, we would. Those "good old days" really never existed.
Sorry but I remember the 1990s when you could only project your own phone number, or you could enter "*86" and then the number to show up as a "blocked" number (blank). Those "good old days" existed and can exist again. It's just technology.
VOIP (Voice over IP) didn't exist then. VOIP is what allows the spoofing. It's too big of a part of the market to get rid of VOIP.
I would like to amend my above statements. Just researched it some more, and beginning December 2019, there will be a system in place that should help to combat spoofers. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy...nies-to-adopt-new-anti-robocall-tech-in-2019/ https://www.fcc.gov/call-authentication

Wow, just wow. Too lazy to even research the issue, but that's no real surprise. The fact is that the FCC is requiring a system to prevent (or try to prevent this), and it is process of being implemented at this time, and will be implemented by December 2019. Read the links below.
Which was almost certainly planned to be in since before Dirty Don was even thinking of being President. But thatś all right, the sun came up again this morning. Letś all be sure to thank the Orange Avenger. Is it time to sacrifice another child to him yet?
I voted against Trump twice (primary and general). Point is that you are just making assumptions based on a lack of knowledge. Again, you didn't read the articles posted. Ajit Pai started this in November of 2018, i.e. during the Trump Administration. Please just spend some time learning, instead of just spouting off assumptions. The information is out there.
