People leaving their education at the door when attending religious services. Pretty sad.

Gender and ethnicity come with traits.

    Yeah
But imo this factor is oversold regarding ethnicity
Jews and aisians are not genetically smarter
    They have a cultural edge
If bill gates had been raised in appilaicha
He would not have started microsoft

But 2 smart parents have a much higher chance of a smart kid than 2 ding bats. Part is genetics and part is nurture. Only a savant can excel with nothing.

    I agree
But lots of smart people are do not get ahead
And lots of average people from good backgrounds do

    Hey
I agree there are many factors at play
    Including genetics
    And
    Btw
If you believe in the importance genes
Then i would speculate that slaves were genetically selected for certain roles
    And if that is true
Then it seems hard for those who did that selection to now evade responsibility for the result

And similar logic applies to the cultural demolition caused by segregation

I think this factor is marginalized frequently for the sake of political correctness. It is so silly to me. It is a fact that as a whole men are physically stronger, have less body fat, are better at spatial tasks, women are better at verbal tasks, memory, and intuition.
Anerica had a lot of pro football and basketball teams. Asians are not on the roster. But they do great in gymnastics in the Olympics. Genes matter.
I believe both nature and nurture have significant impact. We are not all created equal, we are not all the same. I'm grateful for the variety:) Why not celebrate and acknowledge our differences? Our differences in abilities, aptitude, strength....it is how humanity thrives. Societies are built on human strengths and weaknesses. Our survival, comfort, and longevity are a result of how our differences are complimentary.

What do you suggest America should do regarding race relations?

    Funerals.
I think traditional handling of the dead in America is positively morbid.

Just try to keep an open mind

It is sort of like an argument in a marriage
    Everyone shouting and pointing fingers
And all sides likely bear some blame
And all sides have legitimate points to make
Which need to be heard, not dismissed

Imo we should try to offer some help to disadvantaged people
    No matter their race

What does America currently do well regarding helping the disadvantaged? What changes or new ideas can you offer that might be more productive?
Tell me about this shouting and fingerpointing regarding race in your community. What points are made? What's your local demographic? What are the general attitudes of your peers?

I think we deserve credit for trying
I think we need to try some new ideas
I think apprenticship programs might help
I think we need to take a hard look at current programs that are ineffective
I think we need to spend more on fraud reduction

    My community is extremely diverse
And everyone seems fine with that
    My community seems fine
I work with an egyptian, a philipino
    Many hispanics
Have worked for a couple indian owned companies

Plenty of shouting and finger pointing on this forum and in the news

Mostly no problems among my peers
    One guy was a racist
    But he died
My brother married a chinese lady
    Very sweet

Their kids are normal american kids

This I agree with. My wife who is from Thailand took her citizenship test around 1990. You know what she was taught in an INS class to get ready for the test? That here in America we have no hyphenated Americans, regardless of your race, color, creed or where you came from, we are all Americans.

Not any more. Is there such a thing as an American? Seems today we are either African-American, Hispanic-American, Native-American, Asian-American. Wait! did I leave someone out? Let's see, we have no white-American or Caucasian-Americans.

Are all these hyphenated groups trying to tell us the only real Americans without a hyphen are white Americans. I guess that is the only group here than doesn't have a hyphen. Crazy as all get out, ain't it?

What is the housing market like in San Jose today? How do you feel about illegal aliens there?
The schools your kids attend, are they very diverse?

    Housing market is on fire

Schools are diverse, but no kids there for a while

Imo illegal immigration has been used to lower labor costs
dish washers, but also gardening, construction
    My wife manager is such
And i think it is wrong to think these are only farm workers
They take jobs away from kids, and lower skilled americans
Employers often take advantage because they will not complain

Among other things we should be able to figure out who has a valid ssn
Easier to do this than build a wall imo
But we want to spend money on a friggin wall
I guess a wall is easier to understand and will not upset employers

No one seems to be addressing the fact that we banned Kinder Eggs? Maybe it's not a social norm, but to me it's kind of ridiculous that we're one of the few (if at all) countries who has banned it due to choking hazards.

I am not Christian, and when I did own my own store, I did not put Christmas decorations up. My employees said happy holidays, and we were told that we hated Christians because we did not say merry Christmas.

I've always found this interesting. I'm non religious but I still say Merry Christmas, as do most Australians. The first time I heard Happy Holidays was from an American colleague at our staff Christmas party a few years ago. This was before the influx of Americans into my work place. Everyone else (Australians, Brits, Europeans) just says Merry Christmas.

Many Americans do too, but others, like myself, choose not to take part in Christian traditions, and the far right Christians claim that, by doing so, we are attacking them, and their religious rights.

Military worship. It's become pervasive in this country and cuts across the political spectrum.

Weird. I haven't the faintest idea where this Happy holidays comes from. Probably an atheist thing, but if it makes you happy saying it, more power to you. The thing though is it is Christmas and Christmas is the federal holiday.

Although I am Buddhist, I always say Merry Christmas. It is the right thing to do since it is Christmas that is being celebrated. In my travels around the world the only place I ever heard Happy Holidays was in the states. This is unique to America. I assumed political correctness was probably behind this. The states are a funny place. It is like saying I will take the holiday off, but I will not recognize the holiday. Weird.

I'm convinced that we will never achieve real racial harmony in this country until we stop believing that Blacks must be given a social-crutch because, somehow, it's an accepted belief that they are not mentally or ethically capable of attaining success and happiness without a liberal "Welfare State".

It's so ridiculous now that, in addition to the outright, bald-faced illegal practice of Reverse Discrimination (i.e., "affirmative action"), we behave in this country as though Blacks are unreliable, disloyal, and (deep-down) racially inferior, which is why such a large percentage of them have had to be kept on welfare of many different kinds by the government for the past four generations, with no end in sight! THIS is the impression conveyed directly by the spectre of Blacks making up such are large proportion of those on welfare, relative to their percentage of the overall population.

If one thing is clear by now, fifty years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a liberal socialist Welfare-State has accomplished NOTHING except to produce even greater numbers of people who live on government handouts -- and a lot of them are Black! Black people should, in ALL ways, and at ALL times, be treated entirely as equals of all other persons of different races, ethnic backgrounds, etc. Until this travesty of real inequality ends, we will never achieve real racial harmony and "justice for all".... :flagus:

Well, since I am not Christian, I do not really care about Christmas. Who are you to tell anyone else that it's "right" to take part in holidays that they do not celebrate, or that they are wrong for refusing to do so?
