Haig was, I believe, best known for his part in the Battle of the Somme where thousands of Allied troops died needlessly, That Haig was a poor officer who still gained high rank was Forester's whole point in writing the book, not to lionize Haig.

Napoleon was a member of the minor nobility in Corsica. He was academy educated and never, to my knowledge, a common soldier. The most amazing thing about Napoleon to me is that he was that he was not, strictly speaking, French.

Congrats on being accepted into OCS.

Now don't make the same mistakes that other mustanger's make.

Don't try to be an enlisted NCO with bars on your shoulders.

    Officer roles are totally different.

    Good luck.

Thanks, come from a family of officers. Father 04, brother O3, cousins 03 and 03, grandfather 07. I've probably seen 10X more op-orders than all the candidates in my class combined. Have every book needed. I was groomed to be one, but didn't want to be one until a few years ago.

Actually that was very arrogant of me to say. What I meant was, I feel prepared to be a candidate and think I'll do well.

    Everybody feels that way.

What matters most is what do the drill instructors think?

You may think you are the best thing since Santa Claus.

And they may think you are a totally fokked up baastard.

I have known former/current enlisted who did not make it through the program because all of the drill instructors and the training commander thought they stank.

Yah my dad wanted me to go to West Point but I could not stand the thought.

Annapolis or Colorado Springs maybe, but not West Point.
