I thought you're all for liberty and justice. With all the names I've been called on here like statist, communist, or socialist for wanting to abolish taxes on wealth production and levying them on economics rents instead, you sure are a bunch of production and trade statists, communists, and socialists by arguing for consumption taxes (like the fair tax). If you looked up your name in the dictionary, you might just find a picture of Karl Marx next to it. Revenge is sweet . On a more serious note, consumption taxes have to be some of the worst commonly mentioned taxes I can think of. Too much deadweight loss for my tastes and horribly regressive. Hell, I'll just pack my bags, move to Monaco, and still extract economic rents out of the American economy. Consumption taxes have to have been dreamed up by some of the most parasitic people in this country.
The fact that the "Fair"Tax sleazeballs got a couple hundred "economists" to endorse their slimy scheme is the shame of the economics profession. Well, one of the shames, anyway...
People who go online to complain about the income tax and want then want to implement the fair tax for "equal treatment" crack me up big time. I hate the income tax myself but I'd rather play a few rounds of Russian roulette than replace it with the fair tax.
