I think genuine scholarship is of great value. I also think intellectuals are sometimes out of touch with reality and they should be cautious when blessing mankind with plans for a universal utopia.

While Chomsky's influence on others is indeed undeniable, his "brilliance" and theories are undeniably in dispute.

Chomsky was an apologist for the Khmer Rouge and a fanboy of the Communist monsters in Vietnam - he associated himself with Stalinism in word and deed. There's no room for conjecture there.

I'll presume that you weren't around to witness these things many moons ago, so I'll pardon you for your ignorance.

Some people are intelligent and honest enough to recognize pseudo-intellectual charlatans when they see them. These people also recognize that an intellectual has to actually contribute something of intellectual value before he/she can be credited for doing so.

As for arrogance, you need look no further than the delusion posted in your signature to behold it. You're entitled to your opinions, just as the critics of Chomsky's theories and apologetics for mass-murdering communist monsters are entitled to their own.

"Blessing". That was right witty, Spidey. :)

I can only wonder how many millions of human beings would have lived to see old age if it weren't for these "blessings" (?).

if we're talking linguistics, Chomsky is great. If we're talking politics, he just needs to shut up.

I wouldn't listen to Chomsky talk about nuclear physics, why should I pay attention to his political thoughts. Again, in linguistics, I would listen.

I'm interested in what your definition of "intellectual" is. Maybe as a comparison, you can give a list of famous non-intellectuals that have done good for society.
