There is some fascinating data out there that tells us a great deal about where are nation is going to be politically in 2020 and beyond. It is worth sharing because it shines a light on our political diversity and our attitudes.

    The original source for what I learned came from here;

    https://twitter.com/mattdpearce/status/1149816715955458048/photo/1

That chart piqued my interest to dig a little deeper because it demonstrates that at least 10% of the electorate must be suppressed and/or disaffected for a shrinking demographic to have what amounts to a growing influence in the electorate as demonstrated by this chart.

    http://www.electproject.org/home/voter-turnout/demographics

Now compare that to the demographic shift amongst the electorate.

And just to drive the point home about the disaffected and suppressed voters there is this Electoral College map from 2016.

    https://brilliantmaps.com/did-not-vote/

Now let's take a look at what we can expect in 2020 and beyond.

Boomers were "outvoted" in 2018 and there is nothing to indicate that is going to be any different since we are reaching are "Sell By" dates. The Silent Generation is now only 7% of the electorate and Boomers are at 25% and declining.

Whatever side our own political views might be they are dwarfed by the demographic changes that are now happening. In essence 2016 was the last chance the Boomers had to decide the outcome of an election with sheer weight of numbers. While they will still be able to influence outcomes for the next couple of elections their influence will wane and become less and less decisive.

Which brings up the current Political MOOD of the nation.

    http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019...l-mood-is-now-most-liberal-ever-recorded.html

The CHANGE in the Political MOOD coincides with the waning of the Boomer generation and the rising of the Millennials and Gen Xer's.

The DISSATISFACTION with the current PLUTOCRATIC Republican/Libertarian fiscal malfeasance that has DEPRIVED 66% of the population of the "American Dream" is the most likely cause of this SWING to the LEFT since it is the upcoming generations who have the most to gain by changing these odious policies.

Whichever way one looks at the data above it is evident that there will be CHANGE and given that the indicators show that the DIRECTION will be towards the LEFT that means that our current status quo will be forced to adapt or find itself out of power.

No amount of denialism is going to stop any of the above IMO. America is changing direction towards the left and We the People need to be open minded and willing to accept the changes that this entails IMO.

Please feel free to provide your own thoughts on where you perceive America to be headed.

No doubt about it. We’re headed toward Godless, cradle-to-grave, socialism. A true Orwellian dystopia.

I am so glad I was born in 1962. That’s late enough to have most of our modern conveniences, but before individualism and liberty are wiped out.

The shift in religious identity is encouraging, 38% unaffiliated among younger voters. Reason is prevailing.

    We’re headed to “Logan’s Run”, a 1974 sci-fi movie.

1953 here and I say by the time the young that have never been taught civics or history but are inundated with liberal ideology vote in their Marxist ideologies, I will probably be gone and they can live with their idiotic choices.

All I see from this data is the obvious fact that millenials and younger people are becoming less and less religious, but still massively reject progressivism.

Here's the biggest atheist channel on Youtube.

    Agreed!

Given that religion is playing a smaller role in the growing demographics there can be only one explanation for the consistent influence of the evangelicals in the first chart.

Having many sources all showing similar directions is indicative that the demographic change is happening now.

I live in Tennessee and the people I talk to here despise democrats now. I don't blame them, because I don't recognize them anymore. We had a good dem governor here in the late 1980s, his name was Ned Mchwerter, he would be ashamed to be a democrat now.

I fear there might be a bit of reading too much in to very simplistic sets of statistics here, treating very generic and transient categories of people as if they defined clear and fixed demarcations, ignoring possible overlaps and interactions and a whole range of elements and factors that have been entirely ignored. It would probably be possible to take the same raw data and present exactly the opposite conclusions by just presenting it differently.

If you bothered to read the links provided you would have discovered that those other options were considered and the reasons were provided as to why they were considered unlikely.

And soon as they have to rely on their own demography to pay their socialist bill they will fail :)

    Happy trails!

The flood of illegals from the south and liberal Yankees from up north has us doomed.

I see NY and CA license plates every day. Very sad.

Common fallacy that populations remain where they are at over time. Where did you think those Boomers were politically in 1968?

Did you miss the part about the Political MOOD of the nation and how it changes depending upon which party holds the power?

You are also making the mistake of PRESUMING that people become more conservative as they age. This fallacy has been debunked because today's Boomer "conservatives" are still way more liberal than the conservatives of the 1960's. What ACTUALLY happens is that there is a consistent "liberalization" of the nation over time. Young people are open to this and accept it while older people are afraid of the change. The change still occurs it is only the rate of change that is altered.

What matters is where the MAJORITY of voters are at any point in time. As a nation we have been slowed by conservatism which has deliberately attempted to hinder liberal policies such as gay marriage. Those attempts were doomed to failure and they ultimately failed because that liberal change was inevitable.

We are facing a backlog of liberal changes owing to the past couple of decades of conservative hindrance of these changes. Yes, in 30 to 40 years time the Millennials will appear to be "conservative" when faced with the liberal policy changes that they face but in reality it is only a matter of PERCEPTION rather than fact. None of them would be advocating for rolling back any of the liberal policies they currently support. You can verify that by the fact that the MAJORITY of Boomers still SUPPORT the EPA and the clean environment policies that they fought for back in the 1960's.

Faulty reasoning. Elderly today might tend to be more liberal than elderly years ago. However, there is a trend for the group to become more conservative over time.

You have to follow a specific group through their life time. For example. Take a group of twenty year olds in 1969 and look at their political views. Compare that with a group of seventy year olds today. Do not compare a group of seventy year olds in 1969 with a group of seventy year olds today.
