White House planning to proceed with State of the Union, but details up in the air after Pelosi threat

The White House is still planning to move ahead with next week’s scheduled State of the Union address, but the details remain up in the air after House Speaker Nancy Pelosistrongly urged the president to delay the speech or submit it in writing amid the government shutdown fight.

According to multiple sources, it remains unclear whether the address scheduled for Jan. 29 will in fact go forward, or what venue it would be in. The White House is even planning for the possibility of a speech outside of Washington.

But Fox News has learned that the White House sent a letter to the House Sergeant at Arms asking to schedule a walk-through for next week’s planned address. This comes after a previously scheduled walk-through last week was canceled at Pelosi’s request.

At the moment, President Trump intends to be at the Capitol next Tuesday to deliver his speech as scheduled, sources said. White House officials told Fox News they essentially are preparing for two tracks for next week's speech. The preferred track is an address, as per custom, at the Capitol. The second track is a backup plan for a speech outside of Washington, D.C.

Ultimately, whether the speech is given on the House floor is up to Pelosi. In an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday, White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley suggested the president could move the location of the speech should Pelosi block it in the House.

She just doesn't want the optics of being lectured to by Trump in the house chamber! And she's using 'security' as a excuse! The Department of Homeland security said that they can secure it without issue!

 

All he has to do is open the government. Then he can give the SOTU from the House.

The BLOTUS swore an Oath to Uphold the Constitution which clearly STIPULATES;

This can either be done in writing or in person to Congress itself.

Giving a speech in other venue does NOT fulfill the requirements stipulated in the Constitution and can be ignored by Congress.

Furthermore the BLOTUS will NOT get the usual glad-handing that goes with the pomp and ceremony that occurs with the SOTU. In addition he won't get any applause from the GOP unless he invites them to this alternative venue. However it will be a HOLLOW SHAM if he goes down that road with DESPERATION written all over it.

If the BLOTUS needs his TV time that is so PRECIOUS to him that he will do it elsewhere then that says volumes about what a small man he is in reality.


In essence the BLOTUS has yet another opportunity to unite the nation but he instead he will do his utmost to DIVIDE it even further for the sake of his own fragile ego.

This move and the CONSEQUENCES are entirely on the BLOTUS.

Not without an invitation, and a resolution for a joint session of Congress.

Unless, of course, he wants to give a speech to an empty, darkened room with the cameras off.

He has no authority to open the government without the appropriate actions by the Legislative Branch. Just sayin... It pays to know how our government works.

 

He needs an invitation.

 

I know that. But the House has voted on a bill that would open the government. McConnell refuses to let that bill go to the Senate floor for a vote, because Trump won't sign it.

If Trump would change his mind, it would go to the Senate, get voted on and then to Trump. Trump could make one phone call and the wheels would start turning to get the government open very quickly. Within hours (subject to the procedural rules of the Senate).

 

Pelosi and the Dems could make one accommodation and the government would be open very quickly! Pretty simple. Even noted popular liberals are telling her to give that accommodation so that this nightmare can end.

 

If I were Trump I would give the speech in the house regardless of Nancy's desire if for no other reason than to show her who is in charge. The President is highest rank and does not have to do what anyone tells him to do or not to do. Mr. President, show her she is not in charge.
