I'm saying that the Jews are a distinct racial group, the members of which may or may not practice the religion of Judaism. Additionally, people not in that racial group may practice Judaism. The word "Jew" can refer to either the racial group or the religion, and need not be referring to both at all times.

Hispanics have been predominantly resident in that region for hundreds of years. The Spanish (aka his-spanics) were there long before other European settlers, having first discovered the region in the late 1500s. Texas (US) didn't take full political control until 1846.
